Let's hope the information is passed to the collectors......or the whole purpose (convenience) of doing this online and having it on a smartphone will be defeated.

Not a pleasant experience waiting in an airport as everyone passes you by.....while waiting for the jefe to confirm your new electronic time saving online tourist card purchase.

For the record, I have used the purchased online printed card at STI....and after a bit of confusion...it was accepted. Next week, I will try the Smartphone version....but with the printed backup....just in case....and then report back on the experience.

FYI: For those who do purchase online.....note that the card is valid for one year from purchase.

Respectfully,

valid for one year from the date purchased, to be used only ONCE within that year.

Punta Cana maybe a bit more advanced.....because this trip I attempted to use the smartphone version of the tourist card in STI and got those confused looks as in "what is this supposed to be," so rather than press the issue at 3:00 AM, I pulled out the printed version and was on my way.

Progress is slow sometimes.

A bureaucrat without an expected piece of paper is likely to be disappointed. Printing these out save time and worth it for me.

Is it possible to buy the tourist visa without extra fees at the airport if you bought it at 35 days instead of before the 30 days?

If you buy it on line, it is good for a year and costs $10. If you buy it at the airport, you wait in line to pay for it and it costs $10. There are no discounts or deals. What you save is time waiting in line to go through immigration. If you checked your luggage, you will probably have to wait for that for a while to grab your bag(s) off the carrousel. The advantage of buying a tourist card online is you can wait while watching the luggage go round and round, which less stressful that waiting behind a line of people waiting to buy a tourist card.

doesn't matter if you buy it 35 or 85 etc days prior to travel online.
from the moment you buy it it is valid for One Year from that date , to be used once within that year, then valid for 30 days counting from the moment you use it/entry date of your arrival in the DR.
