Trade resumed through Haiti-DR land border

Commercial activities at the border with Haiti are back to normal. The border was closed on 7 July 2021, following the murder of Haitian President Jovenel Moise. Foreign Relations Minister Roberto Alvarez confirmed to reporters after a government council meeting on 14 July 2021 that “trade is already flowing.”



The Abinader administration had already reported on 13 July that it had decided to reopen the border for humanitarian reasons and to enable the resuming of exports to Haiti.



The decision seeks to maintain the supply of Haitian commerce at the required levels to reduce the possibility of a general shortage that would produce social instability and migratory flows. The government is monitoring the situation on a day-to-day basis.
