Tragedy at sea off Miches

The Dominican Armada reported that at dawn on Thursday, 25 November 2021 a small boat headed to Puerto Rico with illegal travelers had capsized off the coast of Miches, El Seibo province. Eight people reportedly drowned and the navy teams were able to rescue 22 people alive.

The Armada tweeted the rescue operations combed the area between Miches and Celedonio on the eastern coast.

Of those rescued, 15 are men and seven are women. Of the eight reported dead, six were women, two men.

The boat trip had begun in Samana but detoured to Miches when encountering trouble at sea because of the weather conditions brought by a cold front. The boat capsized near Celedonio beach where the turbulent seas washed up several corpses.

The Armada said that there were reports of adverse maritime conditions, and nevertheless, the victims fell prey to unscrupulous people...

Yes it was, and they are of course. Wind was about 9 to 10 knots with 1.6 metre seas. Always a rough go in the Mona passage too. But the port authority wil not allow departures if they consider the weather to be poor or bad conditions.
Of course they weren't paying attention to that.

Not enough jobs for the Dominicans and from what I see of construction, pulgas, fruit sales and Spandex Queens the Haitians are keeping wages from sky rocketing and taking a fair share of some jobs.

Last night another boat with 47 people left from Miches but the motor broke and they had to be rescued. Eight people were sick and four people are in the hospital this morning.

Yes. Yolas to PR were very common. Seems they are picking back up in popularity.

Between Cabrera and Nagua is a small community called Puerto Rico a Pie.
Looks like back in the days this was # 1 departure location for Yolas.
The American Dream, many had die but a lot people made it safe to US Coast.

They might be involve in that tragedy. They are missing from Friday November 26 about about 6PM -to Saturday November 27 at 11AM. They are a brother and sister. Any information would be helpful
