I have been living in the DR for thirteen years, and i wanted to go to Columbia, but my experience with Copa AIR LINES has made me to never want to travel again!

There was a times when i would travel 2 weeks a month

Now it is a different world

It is my policy to take a rubber boat than fly with copa

I have tried to pay for my tickets three times and they give me my money back

They will not be in business long

They have a very nice FU attitude

Wingo is a good option out of Las Americas. I flew to Medellin in April, no complaints at all. It is part of Copa, though.

I fly Copa to Central America, South America, Caribbean and even to Las Vegas. Never had a problem. And I fly Jet Blue to Fort Lauderdale and NYC (direct flights) and never had a problem with them either.

I have flew with Copa many times, stoped for 2 years when Arajet came out, and will start to fly back with Copa as Arajet moved flights to Punta Cana and are not longer served from Santo Domingo. Never had any issue with them, actually I flew to Cuba last months and all went smooth as always. Have you ask them why they reversed your payments? may be a reason, you need to ask to know for sure what its wrong, sometimes may be the bank, may be your information, May be your credit card or anything else. But you must ask why, I remember an airline cancelled my booking because the email address was wrong and didnt exist. I called and asked why.

If you do fly with Arajet to Colombia, remember that under Colombian law, all tickets are refundable to 90% of what you paid up to 24 hours before departure. Arajet do mention this many times on their website, you will have a bit of a fight to get the money back if you cancel as staff have all been trained to tell you that you're wrong, but eventually they do refund.

Their flights are decent and they offer a range of locations including Medellin and Cartaghena from SDQ and PUJ and STI. So well worth checking.

It's not about planes falling out of the sky. It's about that in case of any problem dealing with a normal company (Copa) or with a Dominican one. Be it any problem, refund, re-booking, cancelled or delayed flight, lost baggage, you name it, dealing with any Dominican company is something I would like to avoid at all costs. Especially when there's Copa, the best airline in this region.

This is very simple for me. My experience is that if a pilot is not FAA licensed, regardless of booking infrastructure or customer service components, I'd rather swim.

I remember some years ago one of my friends booked tickets to some Caribbean island (I don't remember which one) with stopover in Santo Domingo, so he flew from Europe to Santo Domingo, and by the time he was here, he found out that the airline he had to fly on the next leg just doesn't exist anymore, so he had to spend his vacation in DR.

For me this AraJet is the same crap as PAWA, Caribair or whatever else from the long list of defunct Dominican airlines.

The chances of dying in an airplane crash are about the same as getting hit by lightning. Driving in a car is 1,000 times more dangerous..............

Yes I completely agree, dealing with Arajet is like pulling teeth. From what I understand (I knew one of their directors) they started in DR with a hand-picked leadership team of mainly non-Dominicans and got off to a flying start (excuse the pun). However there was an agreement (not sure with whom) that they would then replace such management with Dominicans and since then it has become a sh!tshow in terms of customer service. My experience is that they have arrogant idiots who patronise you as a customer and very often give you incorrect information.

However if flying to Colombia, it's so much easier to take a direct flight to Medellin or Bogota, particularly for those in Santiago, than to have to do a much much longer journey via Copa at a much higher price. Particularly since you can get refunds on Arajet flights if you're persistent.

As I mentioned before, it's not only about refunds. It can be anything, lost baggage, delayed flight, whatever else... And in case of any problem I prefer dealing with a normal company than with a bunch of imbeciles. I better pay higher price and I don't mind having connection in Panama.
