Hi

I am Canadian, I am going to the DR to visit for 2 weeks, would like to cross over to Haiti by land to visit some firends who live there. Do any of you know of the requirements for a Canadian Citizen crossing the border by land between DR and Haiti?

There are no special requirements, other than the willingness to live dangerously.
Whereabouts in Haiti do you want to go?

I think that would be "Petionville" and I have no idea of your husband's requirements to cross.
You did get the part about living dangerously, didn't you?

Dominicans need a visa, yes. Petionville is as safe as it gets in the Port-au-Prince area, and if you have friends there who know the ropes you will be fine. If you're going by bus, it drops you off in Petionville. If you're flying, get your friends to meet you at the airport.

I was there 3 weeks ago... I went with the Caribe Tours from Sto Dgo to P?tionville... Very easy, I never felt unsafe at any moment...

I went into Haiti with a dominican friend, and he didn`t need a visa. We just went and had a brief, nice talk with the Haitian official in his office, accompanied by our dominican buddy who was in charge of the border on the DR side, and that was that. (this was just a day trip though)

On the Haiti side of the border, there were no Haitian military guards or officials in sight, just some Brazilian and US troops wearing blue beanies and stationed there by the UN, and we just went past them as if they didn't exist. Of course, we didn't go deep into Haiti.

Friends have told me the best way to go deep into Haiti is with Caribe Tours, and the only time there is anything official is on the return to the DR, when everyone gets out of the bus for Customs inspection.
