An eight year old resolution of the city government of the capital city bans freight trucks from circulating on the Malecon. But given the present state of affairs with motorcyclists regularly violating the city resolution 2-2017, and parking is allowed even right under No Parking signs, and Digesett looks the other way. So, the truck drivers are doing their own rules breaking. Many have chosen to ignore the ban, Diario Libre reports.

Truck circulation is banned from the Luperon crossing of Autopista 30 de Mayo, on the west side of the Malecón, to the Port of Santo Domingo on the east end.

The trucks on the Malecon are a danger to other traffic an eyesore that is not good for SD's image. I agree with the government on this one. Truck bans like this are common in other world cities.

A ban means nothing without any enforcement. Maybe a couple of tight roundabouts would help too? If the trucks can't enter the Malecon, they will have to use other routes. But, not being in SDO, I'm not familiar with much of the Malecon other than around the area for renewing residencia.

The transportation unions aren't gonna budge. The city government doesn't want to go to war with them. These trucks will continue to operate on the Malecon same as they always have and nice feel good articles online by publications like Diario Libre won't make a difference either.

They absolutely have to do something. I witnessed a terrible accident the previous weekend on the malecon. I was relieved when i saw it was only parked cars but then one of the cars wasn't there anymore. I thought they were going to kill the driver honestly. Speeding through a damn cross walk

It was sent over into the park next to a swing set. It was sunday and full of kids on bikes and playing. Thankfully, there wasn't a single injury. How? I have no idea.
