By the way, I have a 4K UHD TV, and a 200 Mbps fiber optic internet and before I was receiving my streaming content with a very old Buzz Box, which I replaced with the Fire Stick.

The Buzz box was the bottleneck. I thought I was getting high quality content with the Buzz box, but I was blown away with the Fire Stick.

It's like I'm standing in the area where the filming was happening. It's that clear. Super quality.

Update, Greg has talked us thru install and any problems we have encountered. There has been a couple of brief down times but mostly we are very happy with this service.
The only problem is we cannot replicate the DVR service we had with Dish.. Thus we are not able to record events/shows to watch later. We haven’t solved this problem yet.

I’m wondering if I’m the only one left with a DISH satallite for tv? This year I have had to stop feeding my cat so I can pay the 2,000USA cost of keeping the service. And I only watch sports and news. However, I record then watch when I want to.
An looking for some direction in accessing a streaming service primarily for sports with some news. I would need to be able to record the event to watch later. You have to know that my technical expertise consists of finding the right remote to use of the 2 that are available.
I will look for an appropriate kid to read and explain all replies.
star plus , NFL and MBL packages for all costs me about 400 yearly

I've never even tried recording events. Any time I miss something I wanted to watch it is usually available from various sources within 24 hours.

I use the app Greg recommended, and it works great to record. I also use the Favorites to keep easy track of the shows I watch, keeps them all together and I don’t have to search for them later when new seasons are released.

The favorites are the bomb. Nothing like being able to binge watch a series without lifting a finger once you start with S1E1

If you're using a fiestick or android TV you wont be able to record simply because they do not have enough space to do so. There are 2 ways around that. the first is to get an android TV box which not only has more memory than a firestick, but also allows expandable memory through usb thumb drives or SD cards.

the second way does not require a box and can be done using your firestick or android TV, The tivimate has recording settings that allow for you to record to a network drive or a shared folder if you have one on a computer on your local network. It's kind of technical to set up though. you would need to know your ip address of your pc or network drive and you would have to have a shared folder with username and password access. then you need to set tivimates recordings folder to that drive with an SMB link. easier to buy an android box.
if you do buy one.. ask me which one. some are better than others and i would hate for you to buy one to save 20 dollars and have to throw it in the garbage in 6 months because it's suddenly getting slow and freezing up. And yes, the service does have occasional down time here and there, sometimes 2, 3 or 4 hours. but I remember when i had cable and it would go out and I would call them and their response was, "We can send someone Thursday between 10 am and 4pm" And I would have no TV for 3 days straight while I waited. good times.

The newer android TV boxes (up to 8K capability) and Newer Buzz boxes are just as good if not better and most likely a bit faster than the firesticks. firesticks however, are much easier to get your hands on and since most programming is still streamed, at most, in 1080 resolution, you wouldn't currently notice a difference in the picture quality between an android box and a firestick. only thing would be maybe, that an android box would navigate the guide faster and would be more expandable. also better for those who are technically adept. I like that I can access the files on my PC easily through my android box. photo galleries, music. and I have the TV hooked up to the stereo so i can play my music from the PC, through an on screen player on the tv, and hear it on the stereo. kind of cool.

after reading thru this one I really feel like I'm still stuck living in the dark ages. I haven't owned a television since 2006.

www.wwitv.com offers a ton of channels from across the world for free. They even have CDN and ColorVision Santiago for my local news.

I do not support the new Hollywood but I do enjoy some of the older flicks.
For movies and television shows I recently stated using www.primewire.mx
binge watched Stars Wars, Empire Strikes and Return Of The Jedi Monday evening. Both Young Guns/ Young Guns 2 Tuesday evening. Boogie Nights (highly recommened for all my woke folks) lastnight and I'm thinking maybe either Good Fellas or Casino here in about 20 minutes. Life is good. Cheers :p

Speaking of boxes, I am considering a new android box for my projector. With my old android box, I ran the sound through my stereo; something I can't do with the firestick now because; 1. It's plugged into the projector and 2. Bluetooth headphones are a PITA to connect to the projector.
I'm using a ladder now to connect my Bluetooth headphones whenever I watch content on the projector.
The firestick on my bedroom TV (Samsung) is always "on" so the Bluetooth stays connected on my bedroom headphones.
What android box impresses you the most?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/165544652859 is a good box but the remote is kind of cheap so I would buy it with the optional voice remote that they offer.

I have been a subscriber for years and use Claro for internet service. I have Starlink Satellite in use for the country home in Canada and may switch to it down here as well.

Just received this from Amazon

Have my Firestick connected to my projector and connected the Firestick to the soundbar/woofer via Bluetooth.
For $64.00 the sound is great and no wires running back from the speakers to the projector.

Firestick Max

Once you made that Bluetooth comment I had to check my firestick setup again and by some sort of miracle the option for connecting Bluetooth headphones to my firestick mysteriously appeared.

BAM! Headphones connected.

There's nothing wrong with streaming your content from whatever sources you like but many people are not tech saavy to navigate the different sites and most still like to watch their programming on a large screen tv where they can see it while kicking back in a recliner or from their couch or dining room table or laying in bed. Hence why amazon created firesticks instead of just letting people stream on their PC or phone. There isn't much demand for that unless you are maybe commuting or out of town in strange place and don't have your own tv with you. Yes theres a few places to get some TV channels for free but for most people it's not worth the effort when you consider that these days there are services like mine for 8 dollars a month that can give you everything you want. When you were comparing free to a cable bill of 220 dollars a month then sure, I could see going out of your way to get it for free. But for 8 dollars a month when I can turn it on and have everything at my fingertips on a 60" TV with just a remote in my hand. I'll splurge for the 8 bucks
