Tsunami waves move so fast that, unless you live a long way away, email and news alerts are not very useful. Places that are highly susceptible to tsunamis have sirens to alert people that a tsunami might be coming.

The earthquake was way to the south of us. Only the south coast was in any possible danger. It would have never hit the north coast.
I thought it was almost due West. In any event unlikely an earthquake that far away and with Haiti on that side would create a ripple in DR
