For quite some time there has been a level two advisory, theft - robberies - scams etc. Now that the girls disappearance has hit the news, the tourist industry has evidently been visiting with the embassy...as of today, there are CURRENTLY NO ADVISORIES FOR THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC.

While I wait for the beer to chill, I looked at the STEP website:

About the service

Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) is a free service to allow U.S. citizens and nationals to enroll their trip abroad so the Department of State can accurately and quickly contact them in case of emergency.

Benefits

  • Get real time updates about health, weather, safety, and security in the country.
  • Plan ahead using information from the local U.S. embassy.
  • Help the embassy or consulate contact you if there's an emergency like a natural disaster, civil unrest, or a family emergency.
I know what SKY is thinking...why give more information to the government than necessary. For those from the US that are not here in the DR more or less permanently, may be good advice. For those that come and go for a few months at a time, I don't see any harm in it. Just being enrolled doesn't mean you have to share your travel plans each and every time.

Complete waste of time. You can get better information at a local Calmado...............

Well that’s a bit worrying.

If you put the beer in the fridge early morning it will be perfectly chilled by the time you need it.

https://travel.state.gov/content/tr...ntry-Information-Pages/DominicanRepublic.html Still shows Level 2: Exercise Increased Caution on this page. If the OP wishes to share a screenshot from the STEP page (I'm not going to enroll just to see it), that would be nice
