Anyone here know of any places where UK products such as PG tips, HP sauce (yes I know its made in Netherlands), Marmite, Branston Pickle etc might be available?

Supermercado Nacional would be the place I'd check. I know they stock a lot of American, Italian and French brands in addition to local items.

Rather than going to check is there anyone who knows if there are places that sell tea, marmite, hp sauce etc? Can't just go driving around the country looking for those products...would like some actual info please.

If I recall there is an older thread about this. You can try the search option.

Not that I know of, but if you find out about a place that sells English products please let us know. You can buy stuff on Amazon and have it shipped here via courier, but it isn't cheap!

I may repeat myself, but you can find the products you need at Nacional or Jumbo in their international food sections. Smaller specialty stores in Santo Domingo, such as Supermercado Bravo, sometimes also sell goods from the UK. In tourist areas such as Punta Cana, it is worth visiting stores that cater to expats. However, as mentioned earlier, the most reliable option is to order online or contact expat groups on Facebook.

Driving around checking different stores will consume more fuel and time than it costs on Amazon.

The new Janet's is smaller than the old Janet's, so I'm not surprised. I don't recall seeing anything you're looking for in the old Janet's either.

You will struggle to find British products in DR as there are very few brits. You won't find English tea, but you can find a decent black tea (including decaf) in most supermarkets which equates to PG Tips. I don't think you'll find Marmite or HP Sauce or branston pickle. You also won't find things like onion bhajis and samosas (curry is such a staple in the UK). You will find Worcestershire sauce in Nacional.

There is a company here https://www.britishcornershop.co.uk/ that delivers, £69 for 10 kgs but I think you'd fit in a lot of stuff in a 10kg box so maybe worth it to stock up. Or do what the rest of us do and bring your tea and your marmite in your suitcase. Or just accept that there are quite a lot of British foods you need to learn to go without, but there are some Dominican foods that are equally lovely.

As an aside, for those who remember our dearly departed Matilda, I remember her obsession with parsnips and trying to bring some back for her. I had four bags which were confiscated at Punta Cana. Matilda was almost in tears when I told her, "she obviously wanted them for her tea" she said and couldn't stand the thought of some woman, somewhere in Bavaro, eating her parsnips.

You definitely won't find Marmite and HP Sauce in Jumbo or Nacional. These are very specific British products and there is a tiny British population in DR. The only British stuff you find is like Worcestershire sauce which has a following in the US. Nacional's international offering is very US-centric for obvious reasons.

When I first came here, 15 years ago, there was a supermarket in Sosua that sold all those British products, plus a lot of German and other European goods. As the number of flights and visitors from Europe dwindled, the supermarket closed.
Now, online is the only option for Brits, unfortunately.

I have been trying to find English cider for years but no luck. There used to be an importer in Santo Domingo that carried Cornish Orchards cider for a few years and I always ordered through him but unfortunately he could not get anymore which was a big shame. There are a few French and Spanish ciders available in the supermarkets, but they are not the same as English cider. As drstock mentioned, there used to be a store in Sosua that carried English products but that was short lived. Back then there were a lot of English ex-pats living here, now, not so many.

Yes heard about the supermarket which is now where L&R is next to Parada El Choco. Was thinking maybe in PC as UK is the highest number of European visitors to DR, maybe there was a British shop, apparently not. I personally refuse to use Bezos's company for anything as I just don't like how they screw people...anyways thanks for all the replies and remember YNWA

If I were in the Dominican right now, and I just so happened to be from the UK, I may try to expand my pallet a bit considering the UK is ranked 130 out of 200 in cuisine, ironically exactly where the DR stands in global public education.

(we all make typos, so I won't ask about the size of EHM's pallet) Unless he made up that statistic just to take a shot at DR education, it would be interesting to know where it came from. According to TasteAtlas.com, their 100 best cuisine awards for 2024/2025 include the DR at #92, Irish at #80, Scottish at #78, English at #48, Canadian at #43, and American at #13.
