please expound more on the parallels of you shooting a mad assaultive moto guy with a manchette and a young lady who graduated from the top-rated high school in the country attending a top-rated ACC university who went missing.

Both of them are just a memory now?

If they "lost " his Passport .. they certainly are showing their Intent, and wont let him Leave the Country not today, not tomorrow, probably not next week either.
but Infinity is indeed a LONG time. so you may be right there ..
very clever .

As to " cold case"
what Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) has determined that there is nothing further to investigate and all avenues have been exhausted?
Which is in fact the definition of a " Cold case"
or are you just throwing out terminology which you heard on a TV show ?
It isn’t that they “lost” the passport, but rather they never confiscated. Most likely someone not authorities asked for his passport and he gave it since he doesn’t know the language, the proceeding, anything about the DR legal system.

It was a Dominican podcast which has quite a following in Dominican society that first made the claim the authorities confiscated his passport. The rest of the media went along with what was said in the podcast. Very quickly the National Police responded that the passport was never confiscated.

Today is March 19 and the National Police responded in March 11 or 8 days ago (a week ago).

Overall, the US government would simply cancel the original passport (passport number) and give him another one. Whatever happened to his original passport would be a moot point since it can’t be used given it has been cancelled. That doesn’t meant the info of the original passport that entered the Dominican system when he entered the country is lost. The info of his new passport when he leaves will simply be attached (if not when it‘s issued) to the info already in the system from when he arrived.

This case is basically done. He (and his father) should just relax and take the rest of the time to take it off the mind. They will both be back in the USA before this weekend, maybe even by tomorrow or even tonight. Depends when he is in possession of the new passport.

A last minute grab at the airport would create unwanted media attention and create the impression of incompetence. He is going home, never to set foot on DR soil ever again. The most that might happen if her body is found is a DR legal entourage travels to the States to interview him in the presence of his lawyer and the FBI.

Santo Domingo.- According to RC Noticias, after more than a week of being held in a Punta Cana hotel due to the disappearance of Sudiksha Konanki, Joshua Steven Riibe has finally left the Dominican Republic.

Riibe departed on JetBlue flight 2538 from Las Américas International Airport at 5:24 p.m., heading to Puerto Rico.
His departure follows an extended stay as authorities investigated the case.

I for one am glad he is back on US Soil ..
Easier to Prosecute him, >>> IF<<< and when Evidence turns up of any Foul Play .

( I colored the IF as red as I could .. but I suspect someone will still mis understand it .)

And in the Coming days it will be interesting if the Parents make any further statements on this Case .

If her body is recovered and immediately sent to a US forensic pathology facility, there may be chance to document evidence of foul play, if it actually exists after her lengthy time in the water. I don’t know what forensic pathology capabilities exist in the DR. If they did find evidence of foul play, it would require verification by US forensic pathologists anyway before being used as evidence in court for an extradition hearing. US defence lawyers would make every effort to punch holes in the DR findings.

He’s home and he’s not going anywhere. The Pivot airlines crew vented to the Canadian media on their return to Canada. They told horror stories about their treatment under the Justice system in the DR. I expect Riibe to do the same.

The biggest issue with them is that they don’t know the language and the DR has a different system from either the USA’s or Canada’s. They are bound to go through confusions simply because they have no idea what to expect.

With that said, anyone that have to go through the justice system of anywhere, it isn’t because due to something nice. It goes from being someone of interest in a crime to being in deep trouble and you know it. Lawsuits are other reasons, but no one is sued for being nice. Those that never find themselves in dubious situations at best don’t have to deal with the justice system of anywhere. In the USA the closet for most people is Judy Duty, but that doesn’t exist in the DR.
