Hello All,

I left the D.R. (SDQ) for a brief stay in the United States. At that time there was debate on this forum as to whether cash (efectivo( was still accepted in order to pay the overstay tax or whether only debit/cards would be accepted.

Well, given my experience in May, yes, cash is accepted as always. I paid in pesos and while I was at the desk, someone came by with a large tranch of USD for making change as well.

BUT THERE IS AN IMPORTANT CHANGE! The fees have increased! Throw away your own schedules. Can someone post here an updated one? Whereas I was expecting to pay RD$ 4,000, I was asked to pay RD 5,5000. I have been scammed by immigration in the past, so I asked for documentation and, sure enough, the new schedule was presented to me for viewing. Needless to say that RD$ 1,500 I "lost" was my return taxi fare but at least I had the cash . . .

Does anyone have an actual link with Migracion where this fee schedule can be found? I've looked on their webpage and can't find anything.

I have checked their website also and I was unable to find anything. Could be we are not looking in the right place?

I have posted this at least once before, at which time I was trying to very kindly suggest if the info could be made sticky or something (not sure if possible), but here it is again:

You can find this under https://migracion.gob.do/servicio/residencia-temporal/ which is not the most logical place, but I digress.

Their website is indeed not easy to use... I like challenges in finding info, so...

I always wonder why government websites like that of Immgiracion of DR ( one of THE most visited countries in the world) is so incompetent and not up to date with tech advances in the world. They can have a very user friendly website designed with thier budget to make it easier for millions of travelers AND locals. Like having to search deep into a haystack for a freaking FEE SCHEDULE that we have to pay ! like cmon bro . get with the freaking times . customers have to deduce to an online forum to try and ask what the fees are ??? I mean wow just wow

I think the card only restriction was rolled out in some airports last year, and then they said it will eventually be rolled out to all, sometimes this year...! .

It's good to have update on this if anyone forced to pay by card and they didn't accept cash in a DR airport, please report ..., bad situation to be stuck in...! Who knows if our foreign cards work on their readers ... .

For me the overstay tax went up by 50% when PLD lost power. When the agent asks for 4000 I'd tell him 2000 and I don't need the receipt, worked every time, it was an offer they couldn't refuse 😁 He pockets the 2000 and I save 2000. I tried it twice since Abi won they looked at me like "is this gringo for real or what?" 😂😥

We needed a printed receipt from one desk to get a stamp at an other desk so they covered that.
