The Government wants people to come to the DR with money to spend. That is why only certain countries have the Tourist Card option and don’t need to actually apply for a Visa. The DR wants these people here so they make it easy and very reasonable to stay as long as you want.

When you apply for Residency they pretty much have you over a barrel. They can make any rule they want, charge whatever they want, request whatever documents they want and you will comply. . At least almost all will. They DR has gone too far with this..........

I wanted to say thank you for mentioning this e-ticket thing, I had no idea what it was. I went to the site last night, filled out the form and downloaded the pdf. So now all I have to do is print it out and take it with me to the airport and show it to them, right?
You are welcome.
I read the news at least twice a day inorder to keep up with all of the proposed changes taking place across this country on (what seems like) a weekly basis.

Residency is a headache. Rather than simply the process it's
like everything else. SMH.

I agree with your post #68 100%. When it comes to how much of my personal federal income tax dollars have been spent on feeding, housing, educating and providing free healthcare to Dominicans in the USA, as far as I am concerned we Americans should be able to stay down here and spend our hard earned money as often as we want for however long we choose. No other country in the world has given the DR as much free money as we have nor will they be doing so in the future.

Gosh. Speechless at this one.

You are absolutely right. The DR should become the 52nd state, right after Greenland.

Spending money plus 18% tax. Which part of his post was incorrect?

If a British person went to Jamaica and said, on social media, that there are so many Jamaicans on benefit in the UK that we should be allowed to live there without any restriction at all, I think they would probably expect to be deported and probably be arrested on arrival back in the UK for stoking up racial tension. There are clearly cultural differences between our two great nations, that's my point. And here is obviously not the place to debate these.

When I first came here, I don't think I respected Dominicans and their way of life very much. I thought that rules shouldn't apply to me, I thought I needn't pay tax, I thought I'd be fine building without the relevant permits. And I learnt the very hard way that as a foreigner you need to be respectful of the rules, sure there are super rich families who do get away with not playing by them, but as foreigners those rules absolutely apply to us. Don't try to change how things work here, if you don't like it then leave, that's what I was told on more than one occasion. As a foreigner if you live in a rented place in an expat community, get your pension and spend it on beers and chicas, you're probably fine. But if you get involved in the country properly, run businesses, employ people, build houses, pay taxes, you'll soon find that not playing by the rules comes at the same stiff price as it would in any other country. My conclusion looking back is how arrogant I was, ever thinking I could just rock up here and think I could do whatever I wanted.

So yeah, I have my residency. I pay my taxes, all of them. And I don't agree with any foreigner who lives here and doesn't want to play by the rules. That's got me through the first 15 years anyway.

This e-ticket thing is new, they did not require this the last time I flew out of the DR, which was about a decade ago. The problem with this is that the government makes these changes but how are we supposed to know? If I didn't have an account with DR1 and the good sense to check it I would have gone to the airport completely unaware that this was needed. The ironic thing about it is most of the questions they ask you on the e-ticket form are things they could find by......looking at your passport.

I just show them a photo of my e-ticket on my phone.

Just make sure you go to the Official DR Site. There are scam sites that you can fill out the ETiicket and charge you about $60 . The E Ticket will work, but you are robbed. Also at the culmination there is an option to Email it to yourself, and also to print it. Below is the DR link......

Exactly. As this is topic is for some reason so frequently discussed, a couple of pointers:

Any govt website, make sure the domain names have the respective endings, in this case gob.do.

Secondly, I have not traveled the entire world, but as per what i have seen, I have yet to encounter a customs agency that would charge for customs declaration procedure on arrival, which is exactly what this e-ticket is. So to the point of some sites apparently charging for a fake e-ticket, just think about this...

Dark Scorpion posted that the e-ticket contains essentially the info they can read from your passport. While it does contain all that info, it includes much more, exactly what you would have put into the old customs declaration/arrival form. So without the form, the officials won't have the right info.

No they will have it. The beauty of the scheme is they actually use your info to fill out a real form. This way you are not only getting robbed once, but you are a repeat customer.............

As soon as you threw the race card while attempting to make your point, it became invalid.
I'm from Duval County, Florida.
British folks have no idea what racism really is. We did whites vs blacks every Friday (not my choice) starting with my 7th grade year in junior high courtesy of the blacks who were being bussed into our district from across town. Talk about survival of the fittest, boy the stories I could tell. People like yourself have no idea what it's like growing up in a real racially tense environment.

As far as you not wanting to abide by the rules when you first arrived here or you running around acting arrogant is concerned, that's on you. I remind people all the time, no matter how long you live here, no matter how many children you have, how much money spend or how many businesses you own, you are always a guest and the day you forget it they will remind you.

All that nonsense you were spewing about doing business down here is common sense. You may not like my comments which come across as brash sometimes but I meant exactly what I said...
which had nothing to do with race baiting or running a business down here.

Please understand this is a forum and the idea is to have differences of opinion. Please avoid the temptation to use phrases such as "all that nonsense you were spewing", really there's no need to insult each other.

Dark Scorpion, have a safe trip back. Let us know how it went with paying the overstay fee, it may help someone else who is in the same situation.
I'm in the airport right now about to board my flight. I paid 98,000 pesos which is about $1587. I can confirm that they only accept debit or credit. My credit card worked and I had no issues with the bank, if I missed my flight I would have been in a lot of trouble. A family member promised to send me money to help me, but they broke their word multiple times despite having over a month to send it, and as a consequence I'm probably cutting them off for good. They've permanently lost my trust, they let me down when I needed them the most. Thankfully the bank and my credit card didn't.

Sounds good, I'm glad it worked out and thank you also for confirming that only card was accepted, at least in POP. Safe travels!

Good luck with everything and thanks for posting the update (so many ask and then disappear). Have a safe flight.
