Hello All,

I'm feeling stupid. . . I have been to the Dominican Republic Embassy somewhere around Malecon below Gazcue in Sto. Dom., yet when I google for the URL, every address or website I find is in the U.S. Can someone give me the URL for here?

I have a Haitian friend for whom I'm investigating some questions (information only) because he does not have a computer. Like many, he has a Haitian passport but no visa and lives and works here at far below minimum wages. He wants to know about the "regularization" process. Does anyone know if this is an offical, legal procedure and what it means and entails?

Thanks!

There was a regularization process that ended a few years back for Haitians and others illegally in the DR. I do not think there is such a plan in existence today.

I can only tell you what I'm doing with the Haitians I work with. Get them a visa legally then a work permit or allow them to work under the table. That's what I'm doing with 3 of them right now. I am still waiting on the work permit.

You mean you're looking for the DR Embassy in the DR? That doesn't exist. An embassy represents a country in another territory.

I was thinking he meant the Haitian Embassy, but you could be right. Perhaps some clarification by the OP could be provided.

What is in post #4 is what is done these days and the illegal approach is probably far more common.

One Haitian we know said the current government is making it very difficult for Haitians to renew work permits,
so getting a new work permit is probably even harder, forcing the underground economy to remain large and even grow.
