The trending topic in the Dominican Republic, in the news and in friends gathering, is Venezuela. The Dominican Republic has strong historic ties with Venezuela and a long history of Dominican migration to Venezuela and migration of Venezuelans to the Dominican Republic.

President Luis Abinader has established his position regarding Venezuela, one that he says does not have to do with any particular leader. Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado denounced on Monday, 30 July that the opposition candidate Edmundo González Urrutia had been declared winner by 73% of the electoral counts in the voting stations. The electoral authorities of Venezuela nevertheless declared Maduro the winner of the Sunday election.

“I express my deep concern about the electoral process in Venezuela, emphasizing that transparency must be the cornerstone of its legitimacy. Electoral...

What does it take for a citizen from Venezuela to enter the DR and become a resident/citizen?

I think every world leader should declare that Maduro is a fraud and refuse to do business with him.

The US was wrong to lift sanctions on Venezuela in exchange for the promise of free and fair elections (with outside observers, which were denied). And he refused many legitimate candidates from being on the ballot.
They tore down statues of Chavez.
Without the power of ballots the people will turn to bullets.
The famous quote is: "You can vote your way into socialism, but you have to shoot your way out"

Hopefully Abinader no longer buys Venezuelan crude or does any trade until the real winner is installed. Recognizing Maduro is supporting oppression.

According to the BBC, "Venezuela's government also announced a temporary suspension of commercial air flights to and from Venezuela with Panama and the Dominican Republic starting from 20:00 local time on Wednesday."

I suppose that is because of the number of Venezuelan exiles who might return to fight against the outcome of the election.

Look what this says:

"A number of Western and Latin American countries, as well as international bodies including the UN, have called on the Venezuelan authorities to release voting records from individual polling stations.

Argentina is one country which has refused to recognise President Maduro's election victory, and in response Venezuela recalled diplomats from Buenos Aires.

Diplomats from six other Latin American countries - Chile, Costa Rica, Panama, Peru, the Dominican Republic and Uruguay - have also been withdrawn for what Foreign Affairs Minister Yvan Gil described on social media as "interventionist actions and statements"."

Ouch.

Overall, many airlines are starting to pull the plug on Wednesday at 2pm to prevent passengers being stranded in Venezuela.

The opposition claims they got 6 million something votes and Maduro only 2 million something votes. I can totally believe that. I saw that on social media. Still I believe it.

Maduro insists on destroying the country. This complete loser is corrupt and presides over the murder capital of the world. The only thing that amazes me is that he is still alive.
Au contraire, @Big, they're playing the "calm leader" as they heavily promoting the opposition as the ones who are making revolts and destroying Chavez statues.

Now they're using twitter/IG influencers convincing that the State is the one who made elections peacefully.

This Country is going to IMPLODE ... Watch what happens next .. People can only be enslaved by Dictators for so Long.
Many have already Fled because they could not feed their Children ..
No way this Lunatic got 51 % of the votes .. More like 25 %...if that
The Exit polls are also wrong at like 31 % .. Many people were probably afraid, and so they said they voted for him.. but they did not .

I interpreted your Post as SARCASM .. that the PEOPLE who Live there, and are enduring this Crazy Lunatic, are somehow out of touch with reality .
And that you read it on Social Media , so it must be True . that is how I took it .

I feel terrible for people who are enduring this .. a while back they were killing Zoo Animals to eat ,..this is no joking matter .
people will do anything when they run out of food . literally anything.
Maduro is following Classic Dictator tactics .. I hope they overthrow him, and put him up against the wall to face a firing squad .
