This Venezuelan guy lived in Venezuela for 40 years when the situation there forced him to take his family to Santo Domingo. He knew nothing about the DR, didn't know anyone in the DR. Simply got tired of the situation in Venezuela and left. He lived for a time (not running away from Venezuela) in Britain and in the USA. 5 years has gone by since he arrived in SD for the first time and is basically established and has said he's never leaving the DR, not even if the situation in Venezuela improves.
Well, during those 5 years after the initial tourist stay, his entire family and him has been illegally in the DR. A few months ago the Dominican government offered to irregular Venezuelans in the DR the opportunity to regularize their status, the same that was done mainly with Haitians a few years before. By the way, both of hs daughters were born in Santo Domingo, but given of the illegal status they were not born as Dominican citizens, but rather the citizenship of their parents.
On Sept 1, 2021 the process he started in the Venezuelan Regularization Plan, with the help of the International Organization for Migration (OIM), the first of the final two (or three)-step was started. He was given a document regarding his visa status and got emotional. It basically says that his entire family got the Dominican visa and when he should return to pick up his Venezuelan passport with the Dominican visa.
The video is in Spanish. He also interview other Venezuelans in front of the OIM office in Gascue, SD. If you want to skip all of that, the moment after he received the document stating they are getting the visa and how to go about the next step then go to 11:22.
This is the first part. The second part will be of the day they go to pick up the visa.
