Same here I wanted to check them out...took a little less than 2 weeks to get here...shipping for free...delivery made to my place in Santiago...the tracking was done by a company in Spain...all good so far and yes I might order some more...I just want those Chinese to leave me alone...lol
I've only bought the sneakers so far but the quality is way above what you get in the Chinese stores here. I'm about to put in another order for 4-5 items this time.

It's owned and operated from China and all products is from china directly and the Temu app is very dangerous as it has been on the news.

That is your answer. I rest my case.
Are you aware that there are hundreds of American owned corporations working in China...for your sanity I recommend to stop reading propaganda crap from the US...

The stuff available on Temu and AliExpress is resold on Amazon for higher prices, in fact that's the basis of reselling.

The majority of items (from clothing to household) are much better quality than what's available in the typical Chinese stores in the DR.
I'd say similar to Walmart maybe. Not stellar but better. Those Chinese stores get kind of nauseating, so waiting a couple of weeks for something that doesn't break immediately or have some weird art on it is worth it. Most prices are similar and you can find better quality on Temu than in those shops.

The stuff sold in the Chinese stores here wouldn't even be given away on the streets of NYC.
It's humiliating how Dominicans are force fed such trash. And it's 100% trash. I refuse to go in those stores.
Someday the Dominican people will demand a higher class of products.

Do people in the DR use Temu?

Absolutely , they do . Case in point: Miesposa wanted one of those Ikea JÄTTESTA shelves priced at RD$15,495. There was a two-day wait for delivery and then ...self-assembly.😩

So , she checked one of her WhatsApp groups where many Dominicans and non-Dominicans sell items. She found an almost identical shelf for RD$4,000, delivered to our office. The seller assembled it in less than 5 minutes, and she tipped him RD$500. So, all in all, a new RD$15,495 shelf for RD$4,500! The seller mentioned he got it from Temu ( or similar) and many sellers in the group do the same. I would post the photos if I had the time.

The quality seems to be good and I still walk past that shelf every day and wonder what the catch is . Have we been paying for the same items, but overpriced, from big companies all this time?🤔

With high enough demand/volume they could airfreight directly to the DR and distribute via local couriers..but I guess that is not happening yet.

Exactly ! and yes , it is happening . Regarding shipping to the DR, he mentioned there are couriers/distributors in SD. You can find them on IG , but be very careful ...better to find a local seller and pay a little extra in person than to send your money to an unknown IG warehouse.

He said he just tells them ( in SD) what he needs, and he collects within days. He said most of his customers are Dominicans because most foreigners are still buying from Amazon and dealing with aduana, etc.

We also bought a 'study center set' (desk with screen stands and chairs) for our eldest , from him, and the quality has been good so far.😬😬😬...but only time will tell .

Don't worry, I'm 7x vaxxed with 4 additional boosters 💪💪💪 I feel like Ivan Drago!

When US corporations have serious competition from foreigns they use these scare tactics, look what they're doing to TikTok, and someone was comparing terms&conditions TikTok vs Instagram and Instagram collects way more user's data than TikTok, but that data goes to FBI, CIA, DOD, NSA... so it's all good.

In the underground, we refer to it as FAUX News.
And some of my Dominican friends and relatives are fans of it. Yes: Dominicans!

Good thing I'm a non-violent person. Otherwise, I'd advocate que le cayeran a galletas... por e'túpidos y tontos.

Just keep in mind there is a USA vs China thing going on for a few years. Anything that is said by any media in English (or doming out of the USA) regarding anything to do with China has to be corroborate with other non-US sources. Same with Russia and the same with the media from any of those countries regarding the USA. Remember that TikTok supposedly is “dangerous” too, yet most people using TikTok have no problems with it.

This has to be taken into account in the DR too. Just look at Chinese cars. For the most part they aren’t allowed to be sold in the USA, but they are sold in the DR. If they were as bad or dangerous as it’s claimed in the USA, then I would think a few of the Chinese cars dealerships would be closed by now and you would hardly see Chinese vehicles in Dominican roads, especially in Santo Domingo.

Not to veer off topic, but all one has to do is watch some videos about infrastructure and cities in China to realize it's not the poor country it's painted to be.
