Summer is here and with summer come long hot days. To cool off, tourists visiting the Dominican Republic delight in drinking beer, with locally produced Presidente beer very popular. But a local doctor raises a red flag telling tourists to beware. Drinking all that beer is not hydrating. And when you are at the beach under the strong sun, you want to stay hydrated.

The technical explanation is that while beer contains water, it also has alcohol, which is a diuretic. While beer can initially hydrate you, the diuretic effect of alcohol in beer ultimately leads to fluid loss, making it less effective as a hydration tool than water.

It is that any alcoholic drink will trick the body into thinking there is not enough salt in your system. So your body tries to maintain a balance between salt and water.

Alcohol and the hot sun never go good together. People write reviews about how they got sick at the resort, calling it food poisoning (sometimes it might be) but they forget to add that they sat out in the hot sun all day drinking alcohol.
