Yes, I know. I don't agree unequivocally with Ringo's post but I understand the pervasive dishonesty in Dominican culture that inspired it. My question was if Mr. Guzm?n-Ariza was really characterizing the rant as tantamount to promoting harm or genocide against Dominicans.

Prejudiced and or racist commentaries lay the groundwork for division between people, which can eventually lead to violence - and has of course.

Will genocide be incited by this post? Probably not given that the profile that would be affected by the ranting are too old and tired and maybe a little tipsy to boot. :) Just sayin'.

Chip I dont know why but you have some disturbing need to be accepted as a native Dominican. Kind of like Kevin Costner in dances of wolves. Its strange

There are very succsesful and educated Dominicans. Usually non wealthy people do not assocciate with them. Its no biggie its not the end of the world. The same things that Ringo wrote can be applied to working people in every culture. Let me ask you a question who are most of your customers? Are they the wise honest wealthy rapidly paying natives your are always talking about?

While Sr. Guzman's statements about generalizations are correct do not put yourself above having done that yourself. While you cannot take one persons faults and blame it on the rest of the population it does set a tone for ones opinion. So what are you saying we are all a bit tipsy when we post? Is that not a generalization which one can take offense to?

GENERAL RULES FOR DEALING IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC:

1. Every Dominican knows everything about everything by age 14.
2. A Dominican is NEVER wrong.
3. Hence; never expect to change his/her thinking.
4. A Dominican will never say they are sorry.
5. A Dominican will not give you a direct and straight answer when questioned.
6. Dominicans' don't lie... they just don't admit to the truth.
7. All Dominicans are are your friend and will get you the best deal and watch your back. Ya.

I've been here a long time. And reading posts from our Dominican friends on DR1 proves most of the above true.

So where DO YOU LIVE ... Sayanora and Dominicanas? Orlando Florida? I don't think that either of you live full time in the D.R.

I live in Cabarete and own a home in La Vega.. not sure what that had to do with anything though, there are board members that know me personally..

A lot of Dominicans do fit your profile I will agree but to say that all Dominicans fit that would be unfair, and would explain why ex-pats have such a difficult time living here.

1. Every kid at 14 thinks he knows everything.
2. The only Dominican I've met that is never wrong is my wife, but that's not a Dominican trait.
3. That's not true, good grief.
4. Oh brother, really???
5. Hem-hawing isn't restricted to Dominicans.
6. Good grief.
7. Not every Dominican is good, but there are enough around.

I wonder why I've had a such a different experiences than other DR1'ers out there? Hmmmm. :)

Chip, I understand that your question was rhetorical but because of the way you are you will last here in the DR.. Any foreigner that thinks like Mr. Starr here ends up having to move back after a couple years. His house is constantly robbed, everyone is out to rip him off, everybody lies to him, and he just has a generally hard time. Some people on this board need to apply the Law of Attraction.. I have a feeling they are finding the types of Dominicans they are because if they found anyone else it would ruin their idea of Dominicans.

Obviously anything you or I, or any other successful person in the DR says is automatically discredited here due to our idea of the DR being different than people who just don't make the cut.

I came here only for personal reasons but the DR ended up being a blessing to us since the construction market imploded in the US. At first I'm sure I felt a little like an outsider but as time went on and my Spanish improved and my understanding of the culture got better I started seeing aspects I really like about the culture from a Christian point of view. No society is perfect and the DR has plenty of lumps but Dominican's love of family and socializing and still apparent respect for Christians make it an easy choice to stay. Throw in that my businesses will be starting soon and it makes it even easier to decide to stay. Finally, since I do have Dominican heritage (my father's side) at times I can always just tell myself I've returned "home", jeje.

You can try the righteous angle now, sayanora, but the words above are yours.

You think any successful business person ANYWHERE does not apply these tactics.. seems you've never been an entrepreneur ANYWHERE.. lol..

btw. the us stock exchange is based on this entirely.

No. I don't apply that philosophy. I provide a service of value to my clients. There is no loser in the equation. Victory is knowing that I've given them something of superior quality and that they're completely satisfied with the execution of the work.

Believe it or not that attitude is alive and well here in the DR too.
