Felt like sharing and still trying to get to 500. Can’t post bs. Anyway, the mother-in-law arrived after 6 months holed up in the campo near SFM. The clean air, daily walks and fresh food do her well for a person of 80+ years (you know Dominican women never tell their age). We had 10 of her children at the homestead, my wife included and she is the young one (feel like hillbilly now). They cooked up a Salcocho, with the expected arroz, avocado (saboca in Haiti) and picante. I only tasted one carne, gallina de vivero, but still very good.
The most interesting part of the night was when the suegra opened a small suitcase full of treats. Oregeno, queso de don pancho, dulce de coco, dulce de jagua, canela and other prizes. It is fasinating to watch 15 Dominican women and girls ranging from 10 – 60 years of age dividing up the spoils.
