I'm trying to learn more about the art of the Dominican Republic... Which artists are thought to express the DR experience in their work?

Thanks.

An exhibition of paintings by Armando Casciati
(He definitely represented the heart of Sosua)

I took a class through city college and UASD for my teaching license in the summer on 1996. We visited a half a dozen artists in their homes and the one that stuck with me was Candido Bido. He has a sun in the background on most or all of his painting. Easy to spot.

Didn't a DR1 member have a daughter who had an art showing?

I always liked Bido, and thought he was pretty good. I had a short relationship with his estranged daughter when she came with her mother to clean my house.

They didn't have a lot of good things to say about him.. lol

Man, I love his stuff.

I've got a set of 6 or so paintings done by a guy named Arturito Fernandez '96 (I think) bt no idea who he is.

My SIL gave us a painting that was given to her by German Perez. She also has a couple of his paintings in her home. They are like "pop art" types, Andy Warhol like.

Yoryi Morel, I have one of his and a Bido as well. I have a beautiful painting by a artist name Gerard. More of a Haitian style.

BobS, we bought this in Jarabacoa about 25 years ago, he had a gallery in his house on a main road. The ubiquitous flamboyant. He may have passed now, he wasn’t young then. J.E. Urena

Leonardo Morel had a gallery in Matahambre (Santo Domingo), bought a couple from him back in the 1990s.

A relative (2nd cousin) to my wife, Morel has several paintings on permanent exhibit at Centro Leon in Santiago.
