As a Dominican lying , stealing, and cheating is most definitely NOT a part of my culture nor part of the culture or environment where many of my friends grew up. I do think there are bad apples in every culture and having traveled extensively and even working abroad I have seen this behavior in the US, Middle East, Europe, Asia, you name it. There are circumstances that make bad qualities in humans more apparent and at times a sense of desperation or competition brings out the worst in people. Look at white collar criminals, politicians they embody those qualities on a global scale. Here in the DR I am positive we have covert criminals living among us as ex-pats who are not welcome back in their countries. As to the original post - sure if you are dealing with street riff raff the odds of this behavior being more apparent are high. However classifying the entire female inhabitants of a country that way is ridiculous.

The choice to behave badly is an individual one. Everyone in a society has the same choices of direction when it comes to following a moral compass.

As much as I love living down here, I disagree. It is very much a part
of Dominican culture at this point in time. Hence the DR having
so many problems. They could easily eradicate poverty over night in this
country if they really wanted too but they don't. Why not you ask? Because
they are too busy lying, cheating and stealing from each other.

When I first arrived here people were constantly telling me "oh, but here
in the Dominican Republic were are such a poor country" Your country aint
poor, not by a long shot. Its just EXTREMELY mismanaged and the majority
of the people who live are either to kufcnig dumb or to kufcnig lazy to do anything
about it.

Rather than run the risk hurting anyone's feelings, I'll stop here.
Sorry for the off-topic rant but he asked for it.

Cristo Rey - if you hate it so much and have such obvious contempt for it then why put up with it?
We will have to agree to disagree - generalizations are the root of many issues and I prefer not to lead a narrow-minded existence
Sounds like you had an issue and got your panties in a bunch over it and need some time to heal - good luck

I'm in no hurry to see anything change in this country anytime
soon nor have I had an any "issue" (no sucker here sweetheart)
which requires healing however... I call it like I see it and like or not,
a spade is a spade and if my perception of how things move in this
country makes me sound narrow minded, doesn't bother me at all.

Let's get back at the topic at hand without the need to get at each other.

That's why these type of threads get closed.

If it was in Off Topic, then go after each other.

Let's move on......................

Gracias!!!!

Wow...

7 years...
Must feel like a prison sentence to you.

You love it here?

But continue to bash the country, its culture and its people....

The original topic was about what to expect or wat is expected from you in a DR marriage.
My experience is after so many years just be a man. Take your responsability, keep things financially going and leave the household stuff to the ladies.
I work, cook and that's it. Well there are more things in marriage and had to be okay als Well.
Although we have a russian lady that helps us here in Belgium my wife does the rest and we are totally happy since 2003.
Don't be close-fisted.

Compared to where I came from, its more like paradise.

So... "What is expected of you upon marrying a Dominican National"
As a man, you can start by being a good husband and (if kids are in the picture)
a good father.
