Thanks for finding that etolw. People will still deny it is going to happen.
Maybe they are right, a permit is not a complete building. But I expect it will happen.
If only the source of the Ritz Carlton Reserve Dominican Republic came from Ritz Carlton themselves. Not a single mention of it on their Ritz-Carlton Reserve NEWS PAGE. http://news.ritzcarlton.com/category/ritz-carlton-reserve/
Surely, if it was going to happen it would be listed here.
I don't trust the FB pages or local media who continue to brag about this.
They have to start construction soon, according to their press release
The program at the La Boca, Ritz Carlton Reserve Dominican Republic will debut in 2021, with the opening of the highly anticipated resort.
They maybe looking for the money partner to do the deal. The Ritz may have signed on as the management/brand.
Now they need the money man, developer with the titanium cahones to build the bricks and mortar...and swimming pools.
Doing business in the DR certainly was a learning experience for the man you met Lindsey. As I understood what you wrote, they did not end up using his land east of Puerto Plata for Amber Cove, but rather another one west of Puerto Plata where it was built. I didn't quite follow how the land he owned ended up going up for auction after he paid $30 Million USD for it and somehow lost that money.
As for the Ritz Carlton Reserve and La Boca, time will tell. One must be patient, like how long it is taking in Sosua for things to happen, but it cannot be denied that changes were and are being made there. Dates are fluid in the DR and money must find the right pockets for it all to work. I think the project is real, but will believe it when it opens, whatever year that may be.
I think the $30,000 was his total loss - after working years on the project, including his labor costs, the website, courting investors, etc., etc., etc. I cannot imagine that this property had a value of $30,000,000USD
He put the land up for auction after he realized that he would never complete the original plan.
How does one put land up for Auction? For sale, yes. Auction? Maybe he lost 30k on the sale?

What would be hard about auctioning of a piece of property that he owned? If you want to sell quicky, an auction could be the way to go, especially if it's an absolute auction. An outright sale could have taken years.
Crazy experience. The one flaw is that the only way construction starts is with the full investor commitment. The developer cannot and will not start construction without the full financial commitment. So either a flaw in the guys story or a miscommunication.
Building a mega project in the DR is not an easy proposition. There are many hands held out that need shall we say......slicking. You need deep deep deep pockets. Like deep inner planetary magma pockets.
