Warmth and Softness

I doubt anybody here expects a positive comment from you about Dominicans...
I have nothing against Dominicans and I am married to one.
However, the truth is the truth.
It is what it is and to know what is happening in the country is educating and is part of regional and cultural studies... :classic:

But yes, I know, there are always people who step into a pile of .... and then praise the warmth and softness of it.

and there are others who apparently by choice sit in it and then have the gall to complain.

Balderdash Don. By far the majority of your posts would insinuate that Dominicans are crude and inferior.

Being Catholic I'm certainly not promoting bad behavior anywhere and certainly don' plan on raising my Dominican daughter's to do everything that "some" find acceptable here anymore than what "some" find acceptable in the States but I won't be teaching them that every single characteristic of Dominican culture is barbaric, uncouth, selfish and primitive as you would have us believe.

Apparently, for some of you "catholic" and "christian" are allergens which cause you to send numerous emails to the mods to delete. Fortunately, there is a cure but it has nothing to do with deleting my posts. :)

Let the Truth Be Known

...that every single characteristic of Dominican culture is barbaric, uncouth, selfish and primitive as you would have us believe.
Please find such in my posts and quote.

I may at times pick newspaper articles (and I usually give their links) that you do not like, but I hardly ever give my opinion about Dominicans (or other nationalities for that matter) on a public message board.
Neither do I want to make someone believe things, as I am not a missionary and do not have an agenda ( I do not own a restaurant, bar, real estate agency, tour operator's, construction company, etc... ) like so many who fear that the reality of this country (which I am quite fond of) is known.

Touche Don.

Nonetheless, you are quite adept at letting your real feelings known by posting "pertinent" articles generally in response to anything positive posted about Dominicans. :)

I'm not a missionary and as of yet I have no business in the country so I have nothing to gain from painting the DR better than it is. I've certainly complained enough about this country but my issue about a lot of what's posted on this board is that Dominican culture is inherently selfish, corrupt and inferior and I would disagree based on my personal observations.

If as many were concerned about #2 y 3 as you say, #2 & 3 wouldnt be an issue. Especially not a visible one. But it is. EVERYWHERE. Therefore people dont care about #2 & 3. They are just as much a part of the problem and no part of the solution. I dont see how difficult it is to post signs "Mantenga La Limpieza". But you NEVER see those signs anywhere, except on the beach and other tourist locations.

Better than that I have seen "NO TIRAR BASURA" on TV as commercials but that doesn't help and neither does the 500 pesos fine, they just need to be thrown in jail until they learn their lesson.

No Fine Country

..."NO TIRAR BASURA" on TV as commercials but that doesn't help and neither does the 500 pesos fine, they just need to be thrown in jail until they learn their lesson.

The law is there (Law 120-99):
" Art. 4.- Las personas que sean sorprendidas tirando basura, desechos o desperdicios de cualquier tipo, del tama?o que fuere, en los lugares p?blicos, ser?n condenados a las penas de dos (2) hasta diez (10) d?as de prisi?n o multas de quinientos (RD$500.00) a mil (RD$1,000.00) pesos, o ambas penas a la vez.

But as so many other laws it is not enforced.
Jail is no option, the whole nation would have to be in jail....

A fine would certainly help

but would it not be against the 'culture"? :cheeky:

Always looking for personal attacks....

"No fine country"

There you go again Don.

Haha, you stepped in it (again). :pirate:
fine = financial punishment

Oh, sorry (as you are fluent in Spanish):
fine = multa ;)

And you (as a native speaker of English) do not know that? :tired:

"Always looking for personal attacks"

So constantly criticizing Dominicans in every aspect is not personal to me?

Traditions, thats what I think of as being "Dominican". No matter how bad things can be for someone their traditions are important to them. As for the garbage issue I think it is more about the culture. Not all but many feel that if their own government does not live up to their promises (better conditions etc..) why should they care. Like feeling defeated in their own country.

1. I do not "criticize Dominicans in every aspect".
I asked you to substantiate your allegations (with quotes). So far you have failed.

2. Even if I did criticize Dominicans it could not be "personal to you", as you are not a Dominican.
(I know you are trying hard... ).

Don

My daughters and wife are Dominican. Shouldn't that be enough? If it isn't my family patriarch's mother was Dominican as well.

Like I said I will concede that you haven't posted everything that I said you did but I believe your manner of refuting positive comments about Dominicans and other negatives posts leave little room for doubt what you think of Dominicans.

You could always post some positive aspects about the DR and it's culture to change my opinion but I'm not sure you can. :)
