The extent of my communication on a date consists of taking a sip of my martini, looking over at her and providing a half smile whilst a casual half nod up with my head.

This is probably the ONLY live thread I can participate in and not get myself into trouble .

Talk to her about if she would like a Visa to come and go as she pleases to Nueva York ..
and them how you gonna help her with that .

You are good for about 4 hours with that one .

amazed that nobody has said..."talk in Spanish"! You want respect, talk in their own language. After that, well, regardless of what language you use, dinero is the hottest subject, but not always...langosta and Corona are up there as far as favorite words too, they will talk to you about dinero later, once you have paid the bill!!

Everywhere I go, I talk to women. About the weather, about prices, have they seen a particular movie, "I can't believe the price of these bananas!" or whatever.
I'm not trying to pick anyone up, so it's just every day banter.

No trying to go off-topic but its often considered rude if you don't speak to them. I was reminded of this not to long ago while standing in line at the supermarket.

100% agreed.
Anything less and 95% of them will attempt to walk all over you at given opportunity going forward. Most will never respect you if you act like a beta male.
I have heard that some so many men here.
First from a Dominican mentor when I first arrived and then later by other men who were friends.
Only one way to handle yourself well in this arena.

After I arrived in the DR some yrs ago, I would go to a favorite local dance place to meet ladies while also trying to improve my dancing skills.
However I had an issue with what I was being asked from the ladies I would spend time with that a good expat friend helped me with one night.
What happened with most of the ladies is I would always be asked if I was cansada (tired), so I thought. I was confused as to why they would asked me that while we where enjoying our night.. After I shared with my friend at the dance hall my experience with these ladies, he laughed and said to me I was being asked if I was casada (married):ROFLMAO:
With the music in the back ground, and my hearing not being the best, we both had a good laugh as I was able to resume my night activities. ;)

Based on the four short term emotional roller coaster rides I’ve had with DR ladies, sometimes the communication works best if it’s one sided. Just listen to the ladies and respond accordingly. It doesn’t have to be a stimulating conversation. It’s mostly about family and money anyway.

Sometimes communication is not required and doing something different can be rewarding. One particular lady rewarded me to the point of exhaustion when I made the effort to sweep the floor and wash the dishes without her asking. Something that Dominican men rarely do, I guess.

I’ve spent time in the company of many elegant articulate DR ladies and those not so elegant or articulate. I also meet and converse with many gringas in the resorts. Women of all ages. I’ve enjoyed them all. It’s not always about sex and money.
