Beaches were still closed with police officers on duty to send people away, when I went cycling along the beach road at La Entrada today. So far no different than any other day but I go every morning so I'll update if one day the police are gone and people are swimming!!

I too want to know about the beaches

If you read it carefully it says "North America" which includes Canada. US arrivals is around 40%.
So cater to the 40% in the short term and risk loosing the 60% in the long term. All tourists are important of course. Now they might as well go ahead though.

Gracias

July 1 will be the deciding day I think.... nobody seems sure of the situation

At la Entrada... the Boca has a guard - I know
The little cove at the fish store - Diamonte... has one too

and Sundays are notorious for enforcement

Earth to the folks in this post ... USA makes up 75% of the tourist that come to DR..... That's why it is permitted ....

In some countries governments take a backseat to medical scientists, follow their advise and do not politicize the virus.
Of course all countries hope to strengthen their economies to provide tax revenues and individual incomes.

At the moment US travellers have limited options.
No travel to Canada, Unlikely into the EU, Australia, NZ.

Allowing US travellers into the DR in July would be a poor decision for the health of the DR.
If indeed allowed it will be solely for economic and political reasons, not based on reasons of scientific health research.

Of course one could take the stand that monetary income supersedes everything,
And with a world pop of 7.8 billion the world is overpopulated anyway, so that 100 million deaths would be a welcome reduction.

Regardless of what dreamers want, DR tourism will be nowhere near previous numbers in the next three years.
Mega AI resorts and tourism based enterprises will have to calculate their profit margins and financial feasibility for future survival.

It appears that many people still have not come to terms with the CV 19 reality and are engaging in wishful thinking.

As to the rumors that the government is going to close everything again--even tighter--after the elections, anyone have any info? i know somewhere CristoRey mentioned this, also, and got in trouble for not citing his sources. Certainly, it's the word on the street, but I don't see how it's possible, really, at least as far as shutting down the borders again.

He did not get in trouble, and thank goodness he is not the puff pastry soft type to have been insulted as such. He was asked if those sources were indeed of the legitimate type, or of the usual bored gossip type. He responded that his sources are credible, and his contribution was appreciated.

Yeah, but they're telling me that they're on the beaches right now. Guess it's not true.

It's been raining pretty heavy all day here in Juan Dolio. Thunderstorms since the early am. No outdoor work on the property. No golf.
Tomorrow may be a better test case scenario for beach attendance, rather than today.

Colmados the same like now... Seling the beers and the rum but you are not allowed to drink it there!

This has been the case all along. There was never a prohibition on colmados opening, or selling beverages.

Stay home, one less socialist on this island the better.
You must be confusing the DR Travel forum with US forum and McCarthy who history has exposed for what he was.
Some socialism in the DR would improve health , education and life of the average Dominicans.
Maybe Dominicans will learn to value tourism in the future, I expect them to return to their previous modus operandi.

I don’t want to get into the overpopulation issue but this is some good info. Its an illusion to think tourism can just go back to normal. Important still the international travel advisories and the US where most of flights are scheduled from actually has a travel advisory level 4 still I think.

Lest we forget...

The DR is (or was) on the US stink list for a looong time..... crime being one cited problem
and don’t forget “mini bar” scandal and “mysteries deaths” a smear campaign in the US media still fresh in memory. The mystery was who was behind. The DR tourism industry must be taking that into account to. The whole risk involved

No, less corruption and crime, would improve health, education and life of the average Dominicans.
Socialism is not the answer, nor desired..
Not so sure what this has to do with international travel though.

Honestly, I do not think too many are concerned with the mini-bar/mystery death hoaxes any longer.
Several other hoaxes have taken them over.

True. It has become a thing. Hoaxes. And seeing them as opportunities by some.

Because most people consider NY to be the hot bed of CV19 in the US. And someone singled out FL and a few other states and not NY with regard to those who should be allowed into the DR. I it is not like the DR will block people from certain states from entering anyway.
You are so wrong, its hilarious. NY just reported its lowest number since the pandemic began. Let that sink in. And the daily presser by the governor stopped 2 weeks ago.
