I need the head gasket replaced on a Mercury Mountaineer 2002 (hardware is virtually identical to a Ford Explorer).

Our La Romana mechanic said the jobs too big for him and he doesn't know how to get hold of these parts locally.

Does anyone have the Santo Domingo contact info for the main Ford Dealership for repairs?

Or has anyone had a Ford Explorer gasket replaced with GOOD results? (ie they put all the screws back in lol).

One more thing - how do you say Head Gasket in Spanish? Is it "junta principal" or "Junta de la culata"?

thanks!

Hi,

Best thing to do is to buy the head-gasket via Ebay.
Problem here in the DR with replacing the head-gasket is the sequence and (more important) the torque of the nuts. It requires a torque-wrench and knowledge how to use it; 2 things that are kind of missing.
If you have the possibility; have it done in Santo Domingo at an official car-dealer/repair-center. It will cost you but the result should be there.
Just my 2 cents...oh and yes it is junta de la culata

My son is a Ford Trained Dealer Tech. give me the vin number if you want and i will tell you step by step the repairs including tools needed. motor also. How soon you need the part? heads sometimes need milled if overheated etc. We have a shop in Puerto Plata and we can mill it if needed.
Torno Industrial del Caribe is the name of our company we do car and truck ,motorcycle heads and cylinders. most all Pto Pta scooter machine rebuilds are by us

Chryscar in Santo Domingo. Call Rony. They specialize mainly in Chrysler franchise vehicles but do other American vehicles as well. Professional and "American-like". Meaning they know what repair manual, circuit wiring manual, etc. are for. They are not as cheap as a street mechanic but much cheaper than official dealer's mechanics. That's probably as good as it gets for alternative mechanics, other than that you might be stuck with the official dealer.

They are close to Acuario near Av. Espana.

Tell them George from Higuey recommended you. I trust them with my vehicle.

They did some jobs for me the local mechanic did not want to touch (electrical) and ones I did not trust the local mechanic with (engine-water pump, timing belt) plus some other minor specialized diagnostics.
