Who Rebuilds Diesel Turbo ?

Does anyone know who rebuilds diesel turbos in the Puerto Plata or Santiago areas ?
A real rebuilder, not uncle Tony with one screwdriver and a small hammer.

Anyone with experience ?

The only person on the north coast that might do it would be Greg Roddis,he rebuilds Porsche motors etc. so if anyone can do it he can.

Forget it. I had my Prado engine rebuilt in Santiago after it overheated. The water pump failed causing loss of coolant and a design flaw of that engine means that if you have no coolant, your temperature gauge doesn't register.

I had it rebuilt twice. New sleeves, new pistons, rings, conrods, head pressure checked and skimmed. Lasted 500kms.

In the end I purchased a decent second hand engine imported direct from Japan from a specialist engine imported called Japan Motors.

I had a Santa Fe 4 banger engine where I lost coolant on a mountain road when the radiator blew out and coasted it to a fortunately safe stop as the engine seized up. Had it rebuilt and it lasted another 8 years. I did have to import a remanufactured cylinder head from the US.

I totally agree, rebuilding a Turbo Diesel engine in DR is just a waste of time and money. It depends on the car, but if it's something like Nissan Patrol or Prado, buy a used engine or one that was rebuilt not in DR.

Sorry, just a normal 4 cylinder. Rebuilt in Sosua at that time by a Dominican mechanic and then worked on by Konstantine and Greg Roddis over time.

I purchased the Santa Fe new in the DR from Magna Motors in 2003, Probably one of the first in the DR. Yes it was gas. At the time they had a much larger version that was a diesel engine one for sale.

Greg Roddis or Konstantine might be able to help with re-building the turbo.

Not sure there is a turbo only repair place. I suspect they all do other work as well.

Sorry, just a normal 4 cylinder. Rebuilt in Sosua at that time by a Dominican mechanic and then worked on by Konstantine and Greg Roddis over time.

They are able to rebuild gas engines here. Of course it's not the same as rebuilding them in US because they never use torque wrenches here, so some new gaskets get overtighten as a result, but it may work for some time.

Modern turbo diesels is a totally different thing, never heard of any job like that done properly here in DR, but have a couple of friends who got their diesel engines totally ruined on Prado and Patrol after such "rebuilding".

If OP needs just to rebuild a turbocharger, not the whole engine, I still suggest to buy a used one or the one rebuilt outside DR.

When I had a Mercedes diesel, I replaced the turbo cassette. That is the core of the turbo including the bearings impeller and turbine, already balanced. Bought it off eBay for less than $200 as it's a common turbo.

Rebuilding is one thing, balancing a shaft that spins at over 100,000 rpm, that's another matter.
