Diario Libre shares details of what went on as the Gulfstream jet with Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry on board flew from New Jersey to the Caribbean, and eventually landed in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

A separate editorial in the newspaper explains the implications for the DR if Henry was accepted here indefinitely.

Meanwhile, Diario Libre managing editor Benjamin Morales of Diario Libre writes:

“Ariel Henry refuses to understand the messages sent to him from various directions, including his own country, where armed gangs have threatened to forcibly end his mandate as prime minister of Haiti, which is not recognized by the majority of the people.

“Everything indicates that an agreement between the leader Jean Charles Moïse and the former rebel and ex-convict for drug trafficking in the United States, Guy Philippe, has gained ground. The pact would leave out Henry and...

Because air control didn’t know who was in the airplane and had not submitted a flight plan. Heck, people were wondering where was Henry as his whereabouts were unknown. He had become a sort of Where’s Waldo? in real life. Had they known he was in it (and it wasn’t a type of scam), his plane would had been authorized to land at least at the San Isidro Air Base. Then smuggled into Haiti.

Also, the airplane wasn’t in some sort of emergency (low on fuel, something broke, etc) for which an airplane is allowed to land at the nearest airport instead of having the thing falling.

According to some news reports and from the goverment the flight plan said undefined stop in Dominican Republic, so goverment said Im sorry nope. Looks like the plan from USA was leave him and all the problems to Dominican goverment.

Ariel, who was backed by the US, is currently persona non grata by those seemingly in control of the infrastructure in the Haiti.

The US is preparing to send a FAST team of Marines to secure the embassy and help with any evacuation needs. They will not be deployed there as a support force for any factions vying for control of the country.

It appears that Haiti is at the beginning of the end of another regime...................with no real government on the horizon for at least the next several generations (imho).

A smart move by the USA.

US Embassy in Haiti link opens.

What will happen with no viable government is anyones guess.
Grave security concerns for the DR.

Smart move. Not surprising either.
I’m not surprised JD. President Abinader has been pleading to the UN to do something about the Haitian problem for two years now and it fell on deaf ears. I suspect he has reached the point where he wants nothing to do with assisting the UN to resolve the problem. He’s been exhibiting territorial behaviour since last year. He denied the Canadian military access to the DR to set up and train Haitian police forces and closed the border. Now he’s denied Ariel temporary safe haven in the DR. I’d be very surprised if he allowed UN multinational forces access to Haiti through the DR. He doesn’t want any blowback from the gangs or the proposed US puppet government in Haiti. As you note, a smart political move.

That's not what president Biden said.
He said the US will not get involved in Haiti political problems.

As per Playacaribes' post, they will just be securing the Embassy and helping with evacuations, nothing more.

The US conducted a night time airlift last evening to add more security to the US embassy and to remove all non essential personnel.

Things could get rather busy on the DR border very very soon as Haitians become desperate to leave the country.
