when you live here everyday all year round, you get used to the heat. also you learn how not to get hot. Ever see a dominican standing in the sun?

dominican woman wear tight clothes cause they want to look good/sexy.

Well that makes sense then. So you think it is about looking sexy, and that is the reason for tight clothing all the time.

A nice dress or skirt can look sexy too, but in the DR tight jeans or black pants seem to be the clothing of choice for most women..

You have to have nice legs to wear a skirt or dress and still look sexy.
A lot of Dominican chicas have "Dominican tattoos" (burn scars from motoconchos) on their legs, and other various scars from wiping out, so wearing pants is a better option for them.

Tight clothes can be quite deceptive and lead to unpleasant surprises when they come off and you see what was being held in and up!!:ermm::surprised:eek:
I was thinking the same thing but couldn't find the polite words to express it, as you did.
Something about wishing she would put her clothes back on.:ermm:

Dominicans will follow a certain style and rarely deviate from it, whether it be drinking MGD or Black Label, having a Razr phone, or wearing sexy Jeans.

If you want to make a killing in the DR, find a way to transport some bootleg/counterfeit jeans, like Citizens, Rock & Republic, Joe Jeans, True Religions, etc.

Many Dominican women wear tight clothes whether it suits them or not.

Most of them look great, but the rest... Part of me admires the 'gordas sin complejo' (as my husband calls them) for not being cowed into hiding their less-than-perfect bodies under tents like western women, while at the same time I can't help thinking they might look nicer if they didn't draw so much attention to their defects - flabby, stretch-marked tummies being the main offender.

Not to mention that wearing looser-fitting natural fibres, as I would continue to do even if I was perfection personified, is healthier and more comfortable, and what's wrong with a little subtlety? (She says, as most men reach for their Babelfish).:cheeky:

Land of Victorian Secret

Having moved to Santo Domingo with my husband just two weeks ago,my first impression of the woman were yes, how beautiful they are and that they all looked like they shopped at a store equivalent to Victoria Secrets. Being a US western region woman, I consider blue jeans very casual and more for wearing during fall/winter weather, hiking or horsebackriding. Maybe that is why I prefer to wear skirts and capris here, even though I do wear a size 4 jean just fine. I have no car in SD, walk long distances everywhere and cannot imagine wearing jeans to "fit in" because of the heat. For some reason everyone calls me "La Francesa." Still trying to figure that one out after 2 weeks.

The humidity is unreal. Tight clothes don't breathe. Dominicans don't seem to sweat/perspire as much as we do.

Here in the Cibao valley it doesn't get as humid. In fact we don't have ac and I don't miss it one bit. I grew in Charleston South Carolina w/o ac so I know what real heat and humidity feel like. In fact I'm sitting in my office at my home now with one window open and I'm only very slightly moist in the middle of my back. Ahh, I love Cibao!

BTW I wouldn't think of trying to live in the southeast areas in the US w/o because of the intense heat. I can remember going to school at 9 am in the morning and being soaking wet from the humidity before I even had a chance to start up my car. There can be a sea breeze and you can be in the shade there and you will still sweat like a stuch pig!

What a truth!

I have always wondered how they can go about wearing suits outdoors in a grilling sun!

Don't knock the long pants and long shirts. I use them all the time and it is actually cooler becasue the sun's radiation doesn't heat the skin so much. The only difference is the temperature of the air next to the body will be a little higher than the ambient temperature.

Also, when I play golf here in the DR I walk the big hills of Las Aromas and I do it in pants and a long sleeve black hi tec shirt and I always feel comfortable. If I get a little overheated I douse my head with cold water.

the same tight jean fashion is going on everywhere. there are people who shouldn't be wearing them and some who have the shape to do so.

if you got it, flaunt it !!!

hehehe I've been asked that same questions also.
well not because I fall into that category, but because I'm latina and they think I know the answer.

I guess Caribbean or Dominican women like the attention that they get from the males when they are wearing the tight clothing. The only bad thing is that even when they get into age and fat they still want to wear tight clothing :surprised

To all: We - Dominican Women - couldnt have it any other way... Tight jeans can always get tighter, we just wash them before we wear them.

Not sure who was it that said that we wear was in style, not so much. Even when baggy jeans were 'in' a few years ago, it never really made it to the DR. I look back and I see only tight and tighter fitting stuff on everyone. During the Joe-baggy pants look was in, Dominican women were wearing Zanadis like they invented a new art. When the palazzo pants were also in style, my cousin always had my aunt 'fix' it so that the curve of her buttt was nicely accentuated and they were tight around the waist and hips. I love that the women that work in DR manage to make even their uniforms tight!

Rocky: I have a Dominican Tatoo on the inside of my leg too! Not many here know what it is or where it came from! You gave me memories... I remember when it happened like it was yesterday.

I never could wear anything but my "Las Terrenas uniform", shorts, flip-flops and a t-shirt ! I force myself to wear long pants whenever in Santiago or Sto Dgo, but I really dislike it ! 15 years of freedom, and now I just can't go back to long pants & long shirts :) (I know, I am such a Gringo... but being a Gringo sets me free of those Dominican dress-codes, and I am so glad about it !)

As of Dominican girls and tight pants, God bless them ! They are so beautiful ! Even the ugly ones are pretty ! ;)

I can't account from Dominican past, but now, the fashion jeans like I mentioned before that are a big hit in NA are also a big hit in the DR. The Dominicanas with money are wearing high-end jeans like their American counterparts. It just so happens that these high-end jeans are form fitting and are sized to wear. Baggy pants were never in amongst the 5th ave crowd, even during the 80's & 90's. What ever the hipsters are wearing in Europe or NA, you'll see it in the DR later. Look how "Ed Hardy" & "Puma" apparel has taken off overthere with the sneakers and trucker hats.

Ricardo - Dominicans love marcas (so-called name brands) even if they cant afford them. I'm not talking about the ones with real money, because they do buy the real thing, but the poor ones love to buy anything that says any brand outside for everyone to see.

Give me value for my money - thats what I'm about...

How tacky.

Uh, well, I ain't no lady, but, if I may...
Men should not wear super tight clothing.
Men are like Jeeps, utilitarian and functional.
They are not things of beauty like women, who resemble fast shiny sports cars, all aerodynamic and sleek.
