Why does the electricity intermittently go off a few times daily in 2024?

I remember the first few times I was here constantly resetting the microwave clock. It's actually comical now.
I have a solution for that. Get rid of the microwave. I don't have any digital clocks. And the electric starter gas burner for the stove is a pain. Can't light the oven when the power is out. I have the old light with a match kind.

A small inverter with just one battery would resolve all the problems you folks speak of.

The problem would be when you realize how wonderful it is to have one, then want to add more to it.

My digital clock runs on 2 AA batteries.

I have the inverter and 4 batteries. The kitchen is not hooked up to it. Given that we can cook on propane, the kitchen electric is not super important, as long as you keep the refrigerator and freezer closed.

It’s incredible and wrap my head on how in 2024 there’s still an issue with electricity in DR. Have an apartment in Piantini & not to whine because it could be so much worse case in point outages in the barrios for extended periods of times. Issue I have is with the electronic devices which depend on a constant wattage & constant electrical connection. I’ve replaced 2 smart locks modules & locks as well besides a compact oven. Electricity surges & outages do affect electronic appliances. Building has a generator but the outages thou for 1-2 minute occur a few times daily meanwhile Edesur is absolutely making a killing with their fees
There are issues with the electricity in PR too, less than in the DR but you know when they hit…* Cuba is another one. Have to check if Jamaica is on the same boat and you have all the big islands covered.

* They are hoping to fix the problem with PR electricity woes by, get this, buying electricity from the DR. I’m not even kidding. lol

I live in Naco. I have more than 10 UPS in my apartment for all electronic devices, computers, router and hubs, wi-fi access points and for the WYZE camera in my front door as well.

For some sensitive electronics, computers, etc you need a pure sine wave inverter, and it also depends on a wiring in the apartment if you can hook it up only to some power outlets because you don't want all power outlets in the apartment to be connected to it, let's say if you turn on 1500 Watt hair blower thru 2000 Watt inverter together with other load, it will be overloaded.

In case of the apartment in the modern tower with the generator it's easier to have UPS at every device were you need stable power.

You can have a small inverter at your breaker box for only the outlets with important equipment, make sure it’s modified to switch faster so routers would stay on.

Or what I do, as our generator takes 1 minutes to turn on, put UPS at the locations of router etc. Have 4 in place and just need to change batteries maybe every 2 years.

Maybe it helps.

Have blink camera outside the front door & Yale lock which depend on a WiFi connection happens daily where I’m getting devices are offline msgs besides same msg from router router as well. Have surge protectors on major appliances. Not an electrician but this constant power outages which safe to assume follow power surges not good ..router resets extremely uncomfortable when I need to ask a friend to go over and reset the modem when I’m not there

As my understanding, needs to be modified to switch faster so PCs and router stay on. UPs switch fast enough but inverters most of the time not.
A good point. My inverter does switch fast enough , 90% of the time...

Right. I neglected to mention that. Mine is a sine wave. I adjusted my breakers so only the things I want on are the inverter. (I have 12 Wyze cameras)
I have my entire apartment on the inverter except for appliances and A/C. Mine also switches in a milisecond or two, and that's with the power to the inverter going through a protector plug.

Didn't cell phones eliminate the need for digital clocks ?
Never mind owning a High End watch that keeps poorer time

I have the best digital clock in the world. First of all, it projects the time onto the ceiling so I know what time it is when I can’t sleep, and if we lose electricity or it gets unplugged it automatically resets to the correct time. It also has a little rechargeable flashlight attached. 😊

I would not sleep either with a projection on my ceiling

I had one many years ago when they first came out. Could not sleep, gave it away...........I learned a long time ago to only use battery operated clocks at my bedside, and none that tick...........

This is the one I have. It’s older so may not be available in this model but look for Emerson Research Projection Clock with Smart Set for automatic time setting. I see a bunch on eBay, I didn’t google or Amazon.
