The Dominican Republic exports eggs to Cuba, Haiti, and Guyana, with an average monthly volume of 50 million eggs, according to Agriculture Minister Limber Cruz. This information came in response to inquiries about the country’s egg exports and whether they include the United States, where eggs are costing unprecedented highs due to the threat of bird flu, as reported in Listin Diario.
The bad news is that the Dominican Republic does not export eggs to the United States. The primary reason for this is the poultry industry’s vaccination requirements against avian influenza. Agricultural expert Manuel González Tejera (Manegonte) explains that the country is still not certified by the USDA/APHIS as free from Newcastle disease, a certification required for exporting to the US market.
