The way politics work in the Dominican Republic, the wife of a removed mayor can get the job. While the present La Romana mayor is ordered to prison, the mayor’s office may remain within the family, N Digital reports.

The ruling of the Second Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice that sentences La Romana Mayor Juan Antonio (Tony) Adames to two years in prison has not yet been executed. If the sentence is implemented, the administration of the city hall can order the city administration to stay in the family. Adames’ wife, Hilda Miliza López Núñez (Milly Núñez), ran on the same ticket with him and was elected the deputy mayor. By law, the succession of command corresponds to her.

What is laughable ..the fact that he was convicted way back in 2018 , the conviction ratified and an appeal rejected and yet he is not in prison . When you think of all the people who have been in prison for months or years without any conviction , then I think the matter is both laughable and tragic. The streets in the poorer parts of La Romana are overflowing with old rubbish and rats and many parts have not had water for about a month. At night the air is putrid with the smell of rubbish including plastic bags being burned, much from cruise ships. I Do not know if Adames is at his desk at present or is in hiding but la Romana is in very poor shape. By the way his two apellidos are Adames Bautista !!

He should be in prison and his wife should not be allowed to take over and continue to plunder .
Surely one Bautista ( in politics ) is more than enough for any Country to deal with

I think you missed the fact that she was elected for the office she occupies that succeeds the mayor if something happens to him.

You are correct...unfortunately she ran on the ticket with her hubby and won as deputy mayor...next in line...in this case nothing to do with marital status...
