I haven't seen as much of Cuba as I would have liked to, but I saw plenty of poverty, several incidents of police violence, lots of really bad infrastructure, some really good looking girls, heard some great music, and some horrible food.

Read Leonardo Padura. His "Las cuatro estaciones", known as "The Havana Quartet" in their English translations, is pretty effin' amazing. Probably up there in my Top 20 books focussing on Caribbean/Latin America.
