Contractors have resumed improvements on the Carretera Turistica Gregorio Luperón, the alternate mountain road to eastern Puerto Plata. The mountain road has been under construction for years due to the constant sinking and landslides. Works are 90% finished. The contractors are working in the Yásica district in Puerto Plata province, where new drainage is being installed at the most critical points.

The 60 km road is known for its scenery. It links Santiago to Sosúa and Cabarete’s beach areas and passes by the communities of Pedro García, Lajas, Yaroa, Sonador, Tubagua, Yásica, Palo Quemado and La Cumbre.

Let's hope they bring in some good engineers who don't keep filling over landslides and know how to provide adequate drainage

They did a great job on the southern 2/3 of the route, but that might have been Odebrecht(?). This is really good news for anyone living in Sosua. You'll be able to get to Santiago in about an hour. The north coast will become more accessible to Santiagueros, also.

Hard to believe how long the construction has taken.
At least now the work is facilitated by modern machines. Seems like it was pick and shovels in the start.
Probably saved a lot of lives by slowing down the speeders all these years.
Might be lots more people from Santiago making the journey to Sosua beach.
Only an hour to Santiago would be great.
