I am a new member and I live in Puerto Plata. I had cataract surgery 3 years ago. This year my eyes started to develop
Posterior Capsular Opacification called also secondary cataract which requires YAG laser surgery. It is supposed to be simple procedure. Today I visited Dr Giselle Morales Grisanty. She verified my condition and she said she recommends a YAG laser specialist in Santiago. I wonder if anybody had this procedure done in DR before and how was their experience

I'd look up the specialist on Google and read their reviews.

I had the same problem in one eye 3-4 years after cataract surgery. It's very common. I had the surgery done in Santiago by Dr.. Joaquin Lora Castro. It's extremely simple. They check your eyes and dilate the one that needs the surgery. The actual surgery only takes a couple minutes. Zero pain and no problems afterwards except some small floaters which they told me would go away and they did.

Dra Giselle Morales Grisanty recommended Dra. Raquel Rodriguez Cordoba in Santiago. I paid 21000 pesos for the procedure and she made an appointment with Dra. Raquel Rodriguez Cordoba. Procedure was fast and easy. She had yag lasik in her office. I had also some floaters in my eyes after the procedure. Slowly they are disappearing and my vision is excellent again.

What about vision correction laser surgery? I have been considering getting my eyes done for some time now as I am tired of wearing glasses. Do any of the doctors above also do vision correction?

I'm sure they all do. Give them a call.

Tee, or whatever your name is, I've been wearing lenses since 6th grade without issues. I come from a science background and, although some on this forum may disagree, lasik has never been on my radar. The last place on Earth that I would elect to have such a risky procedure would be in the Congo. My second to last place would be DR, where there exist no board certifications or medical school entrance exams. Unless you're 95 and don't plan on being around for much longer, go for it. But if you value your vision, consider University of Miami or Hopkins for this, if at all. When you're blind it will be too late.

The guy (Dr Taveras) who did mine almost 30 years ago had over 2500 procedures under his belt and was a trainer until he came to the DR.

There are certain areas of medicine where Dominican doctors seem to excel and are as good as any anywhere. Ophthalmology is one and dentistry is another.

Well now that we've heard the same tired rhetoric from the talking head mouthpieces, back to the real world.
I've had cataract surgery on both eyes here along with the YAG laser surgery on one. Same with a friend of mine. Same with many posters here on this forum who have had cataract surgery here. No problems reported by anyone. That is the real world, Hijo.

They don’t do Lasik vision correction. It is different than yag Lasik. I have read everything related to eyes on the form before I have decided to get it done here. I remember there are many good recommendations in Santa Domingo and Santiago for Lasik vision correction. Read the form thoroughly and pick the best option for yourself
