whatever, viajero. even aneta kreglicka admitted she knew she had good chance to win beforehand as other girls were talking that eastern block was set to win.

dv8 I think any woman no change it any person believes they have a good chance of winning any contest they enter otherwise why enter. Believing is half the battle and if you do not have confidence in yourself to win how would the judges have confidence to vote for you.

Every contest I have ever enter I believed I WON before the contest even started.I did not win them all but that NEVER stopped me for believing the next contest was ALL mine.

People can either stand behind Yaritza Reyes and support her or continue to hate on her because of how God made her look BTW which I find her very beautiful. I am happy for her and her true family and friends are as well and that's all that matter at the end of the day.

BTW I would LOVE to root for her but I am biased with this contest GO MISS JAPAN

Another example is I have the winning powerball ticket for a cool 400,000,000USD in my wallet right now. If I did not think I could win I would NEVER give them my 2 dollars.

Some people really need to stop thinking that just because others don't find
Yaritza Reyes beautiful that it means that it's hating on her. It's just simply
stating an opinion and nothing more. Not seeing eye to eye does not imply
hatred or being biased.

JMB, this is not it. i am glad yaritza entered the contest. i have said it before that i think she is a pretty lady and i stand my it. she has nice face and great figure. she obviously has the confidence too, she could be good in sales, i guess. i'd still hate to have her hair, thou.

what i am trying to say here is that no competitions like this have very little to do with beauty (and intelligence/presence, if you insist on those factors). the competitions are decided beforehand. only a limited number of candidates are considered, like in a 1989 contest i was talking about. this shortlist has nothing to do with individual valor of the ladies, after all they were all chosen in their own countries already, they are all pretty, smart and so on. i do not believe in impartiality in those pageants. just as crooked as a nobel in literature.

I agree with you bronzeallspice, but when you read comments like, "it's politically correct to vote for her", It must be some directive for black to win" well that sounds like hating to me.

Okay, I see what you mean. I must have overlooked those comments.

I also agree with you bro because who can really find that girl from a population of over ten million people, half being female?

Ruth is just on the top, I would also add Ada Aimee de La Cruz.

There are some beautiful diamonds in the DR and some are not present in the pageant contests.

K-Mel,

We are in accord. I can walk around Santiago and find 100 girls more beautiful than Yaritza. The thing is after you pull that veil, is there any substance? The girl, at nineteen, is a teacher of English and speaks French also. She has a head on her shoulders which she displayed in the contest.

I watched that contest with Aida Aimee because I happen to have been in the Bahamas at the time but not on Paradise Island. She's a stunner also and came close losing to Miss Venezuela.

Sometimes I believe I am reading about a Scandinavian country and not La Republica Dominicana by some of these posters. It is what it is.

I agree a woman with substance is far more interesting , and she will shape up with the time ( she is only 19-20 , consequently a "raw diamond" )

Venezuelan chicas are also hot tamales. Encountered few years ago some in La Havana ( and they were army Air Force officers), it looked like a beauty contest.

You guys living in those areas (caribbeans, south america) are lucky

I think half of the problem is that these contests are no longer "beauty pageants", as they were when I was a girl. Part of me thinks it still should be about beauty FIRST. Maybe beauty only. And I realize the one I think is beautiful, you may find just "okay".

I've lived in Atlantic City area since 1980. The night before the Miss America pageant, there is a parade of all the contestants along the boardwalk, and I've always been there to watch, it's actually a lot of fun. Some of those girls are downright homely in person, leaves you shaking your head wondering HOW they got to be riding in that car.

[It's fun because starting decades ago, as the contestant's cars passed the "gay street" in Atlantic City, all of them would yell "Show us your shoes!!!" to the girls. Now, every girl who is riding in a car takes great care with her footwear. Some are glamorous beyond belief, some are cute, some wear shoes decorated with something to identify with their home state, etc. These days, we all yell "Show us your shoes" as they pass.]

I live in New York but I am well travelled. I am in Santiago 7-8 times a year due to business. The old model in regard to beauty is changing. In the past it was all about being blond and blue eyed. The sponsors were facing heavy losses because the ratings were declining considerably.

The franchise holders had no choice but to open up to other parts of the world where there's or was more emphasis on the competition. There are too many of these competitions in my opinion!
The Asians, especially Chinese and Indians, would be the new economic force in the near future. You cannot suffocate them and we are also going to see their beautiful and talented women shine.

Latinas have that natural sex appeal without question. It's all that gumbo!

Miss America : News : Miss America Parade

You are right AE, years ago it was mostly based on looks. Each country would
send their most beautiful women to compete.

So ..... the judges have already made their choice for the year ... and now they just have to practice how to present the results.
