US law firm to defend Pena Gomez name

It is unclear whether it was the Dominican government or the PRD party making the initiative, but Rafael Lantigua, president of the New York section of the ruling party, told El Caribe that the Washington-based firm of Miller & Chevalier will defend the accusations made against late PRD leader Jos? Francisco Pe?a Gomez by US Drug Enforcement Agency officials. The firm seeks to carry out an investigation aimed at restoring the late leader’s tarnished reputation. In recent reports, Pe?a Gomez was linked to illegal dealings, including an assertion that he received drug-money to finance his presidential campaign. Attorney Richard A Hibey, who will lead the case, has defended such renowned cases as those of ex-Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos, former CIA chief Clair George in the Iran-Contra affair, and Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard.
