Deputy gives up his parliamentary immunity

Diario Libre reports that the controversial member of the lower house of the Dominican Congress, deputy Radham?s (Chino) Ramos Garc?a (PRD-La Vega), announced that he will give up his parliamentary immunity and face the charges of sponsoring the illegal entry of at least 16 Chinese citizens to the Dominican Republic. Ramos Garc?a has yet to formally do so, though. The former Dominican consul in Cap Haitien admitted earning over US$1.5 million in just over a year and a half on the job. The earnings are not unusual for Dominican consuls abroad, and Congress has not yet questioned the government?s allowing its consular appointees to earn this kind of money.
