The head of the Federation of Industrial Associations (FAI) concurred with the position taken by CONEP, saying that the fraud at Baninter will take years and many governments to resolve completely. Ignacio M?ndez, president of FAI, said that the problem of Baninter not only places the government in a straightjacket, but Dominican society and its business sector as well. The business leader said that the government must now have the Director General of Internal Revenue (DGII) determine whether the gifts and presents handed out by Baninter?s president Ram?n B?ez Figueroa were declared on income tax statements or not. Any people found to have received such gifts would have to pay the appropriate taxes.
