Adriano Miguel Tejada writes today in Diario Libre that the newest bit of gossip from the political rumor mill is that there is a drive to position PPH-PRD coordinator Eligio Jaquez as secretary of the Dominican Municipal League, the organization that handles the purse strings for the city governments of the country. He says that Jaquez would get the job once the present incumbent, Amable Aristy Castro, ?resigns.? Aristy would only resign, however, if German Castro Garcia gives him back his La Altagracia (Higuey) senatorial seat. Aristy delegated his seat to Castro, preferring instead the more lucrative and influential DML position during the Mejia administration. The snag in these wheelings and dealings was that German Castro Garcia was chosen to be the representative to the National Council of Magistracy, the organization that chooses the Supreme Court judges. Tejada writes that some people feel that if Aristy takes over German?s job, he would also inherit the right to decide who the Supreme Court judges will be. ?If this happens, then the PPH would have a clean sweep of the city governments, the legislative branch, and the judicial branch of government,? writes Tejada. The PPH lost the Executive Branch in the 2004 presidential election.
