The Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) denounced the fact the Executive Branch has sent Congress a string of new legislation seeking to create obstacles for the new authorities? handling of funds when their term of office begins on 16 August. Reinaldo Pared Perez, the secretary general of the party, found it strange that after losing the election the Presidency sent a bill to modify the budget law to impede the contracting of any new debt and any public works without tenders. Furthermore, the Senate has confirmed nine new members to the Accounts Auditing Office, despite the opposition of two Interamerican Development Bank advisors. IDB technicians Mario Andrade and Rafael Palomo resigned their posts after reporting alleged irregularities and corruption at the same accounts audit office (Camara de Cuentas). The Senate went ahead regardless.
The Executive Branch, meanwhile, has decided not to go ahead with the tax reform bill it had committed to with the International Monetary Fund.
