The general coordinator of Participacion Ciudadana, Alfonso Abreu Collado, said that the time has come to limit the number of small political parties that seek to maintain their official status with the Central Electoral Board. Those seeking a sure ticket to maintain their formal JCE recognition ally themselves with the majority parties. Abreu Collado said that maintaining these minority political parties has become a business. Each of the lesser parties received RD$5 million in government funding for electoral campaigning. Abreu Collado spoke during the round table event held to evaluate the 2004 election yesterday, votes accounted for 12.17% of the total, in which election the PLD obtained 49.02%, the PRD 30.67% and the PRSC 8.14%.
