Power rates adjustments

Resolution 27-2004 from the Superintendence of Power brings good and bad news for consumers. While industrial and commercial power rates were reduced 2%-4% for June, the bad news is that residential power rates have suffered new increases. Those under the category BTS-1 consuming 201-700 KWH will be assessed a 4% increase on their bills. Those consuming 701-1,000 KWH will see an 8.1% increase in their invoices. Clients in the BTS-2 category will receive a 7% increase for consumption over the 701-1,000 KWH level.

Residential consumers racking up more than 1,000 KWH will receive their bills fully indexed to reflect the depreciation of the peso, the increased fuel prices, inflation and other elements. This increase was not quantified in the press release.

Those consuming less than 200 KWH will continue to pay RD$2.87 per unit.

Hoy newspaper highlights that residential clients have swallowed accumulated increases of 59% since January of this year.
