FINJUS wants a piece of Justice Department

The recently uncovered ?little payroll? at the Justice Department has prompted the Foundation for Justice and Institutionalism (FINJUS) to request a full-scale investigation into the parallel payroll of the Attorney General?s office. FINJUS spokesperson Jose Alfredo Risek called the revelation ?shameful? and he condemned all those involved as ?this does not contribute to transparency and weakens an entity that is called upon to fulfill a role in the administration of justice.?

FINJUS says that not only should the Attorney General?s office be audited, but any other office that handled parallel payrolls with political ends.

El Caribe published a report on Tuesday that showed there were 234 ?phantom? judicial inspectors, whose combined wages amounted RD$15.8 million a year. There were also another 29 ?employees? on the unofficial payroll. The total yearly expenditure on the pseudo-inspectors reached RD$16.5 million. Some of the people interviewed by El Caribe pointed out that the recipients of these political patronage positions were members of local PRD political committees.
