The Environment Ministry has warned Globalia to desist from its intent to demolish the Visitors? Center located within the limits of the National Park of the East. The Spanish company says it holds the title to lands in the park and wishes to use them for the development of a 1,200-room resort. Former Minister of Environment Frank Moya Pons says that prior to the takeover of the property, Globalia would have to present extensive legal documentation that is being requested. Not to follow these procedures would violate Law 64-00. Globalia wants to act on what it deems the legalization of its takeover of property in the protected park areas as contained in Law 202-04, which was ratified by former President Mejia, but is now being contested in the Supreme Court of Justice by various environmental groups.
