Exports up for local beauty industry

The Dominican Republic exported US$42.2 million in beauty products in 2010. Dental floss, shampoos and conditioners made up the bulk of the total. The DR Center for Exports and Investments (CEI-RD) says that exports have been increasing gradually. They totalled US$27.5 million in 2005. 150 companies are registered in this category. 80% of these are small and medium-sized companies, according to a report produced by the Beauty Cluster, headed by Idalise Camilo.
