Julissa Cespedes TV report explains why diesel is so expensive in the DR

Investigative reporter Julissa Cespedes aired a special report on 10 March 2021 on her 10pm TV show on Cadena de Noticias (CDN) TV on Channel 37. The report discloses why the Dominican Republic has one of the highest fuel costs in Central America and the Caribbean. The cost of gasoline, diesel and other fuels has been consistently rising in the Abinader administration.

Cespedes looks into the components of the fuel prices. She focuses on the government taxes authorized by law and the many resolutions and directives issued by the present and past ministers of Industry & Commerce that have padded the price. The price increases benefit business associations and the Ministry of Industry & Commerce while making more expensive the transport of goods and services and production costs in the Dominican Republic.

Cespedes looks into the overt and covert factors in the Ministry of Industry & Commerce’s formula to calculate fuel costs.
