Odile Camilo promoted to rector at UNIBE

After years as deputy academic rector, Odile Camilo Vincent succeeds Unibe rector Julio Amado Castaños Guzman at the private university.

In her acceptance speech, she remarked on the need to reinvent the university to meet the challenges of the 21st century. “Universities are living a transcendental moment. We are being called upon to demonstrate our relevance in a world in which education providers have diversified and the requirements for occupying job positions or undertaking projects do not always require a university degree,” she stated. She said the challenge is to promote a new educational model that is relevant to the changing times.

Camilo holds a PhD in International Education Development from Teachers College, Columbia University, and a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Teaching from the same university in New York City. She is a summa cum laude graduate in Psychology from the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo, Intec.

Camilo is recognized for her initiatives in institutional reform, curriculum redesign, program evaluation, strategic planning and formulation of initiatives for the strengthening of education.

From 2006 to 2021 she held the position of Academic Deputy Rector of the Universidad Iberoamericana (Unibe), where she was previously the Coordinator of the School of Psychology and the Director of Academic Management.
