Dominican Film Festival RD 2022 to showcase more than 150 film productions

More than 150 Dominican documentaries and films are being shown at the Dominican Film Festival RD 2022 that opens to the general public on Thursday, 23 June 2022 at the Palacio del Cine in the Blue Mall and Agora Mall in Santo Domingo. The showings will take place in four cities – Santo Domingo, Santiago, Higuey and San Francisco de Macoris from 22 June to 1 August 2022.

More than 400 films competed to be part of the selection of 150 films, including documentaries, feature films, short films and films from the Dominican diaspora.

The theaters for the film festival are:
Santo Domingo. 23-30 June, Palacio del Cine Blue Mall Santo Domingo and Agora Mall.

Santiago. 7-10 July, Universidad Tecnológica de Santiago.

Higuey, La Altagracia. 26 July- 1August, Palacio del Cine Multiplaza.

San Francisco de Macorís, Duarte. 26 July- 1 August. Palacio de Cine.

FestCineRD began with a formal opening ceremony including the world premiere of the film, “Solo Respira” on Wednesday, 22 June 2022 at 7:30pm at the Palacio de Cine Blue Mall. Dominican director Felix Limardo and international actress Paulette Hernández and Dominican actor Johnnié Mercedes were present for the premiere.

The festival pays tribute to actress Lumy Lizardo, one of the most versatile artists of Dominican cinema, who has participated in films such as: “Todos los Hombres son Iguales, La Bruja, Rubirosa” and her recent international hit, “Hotel Coppelia.”

FestCineRD 2022 has four competitions and awards in the categories of best film, best director, best actor and actress, best supporting actor and actress, best short film made in DR, best short film from the diaspora, best screenplay and special mentions.

Jury members include critics and filmmakers chaired by Alfonso Quiñones and composed of Pavel González, Omar Reyes, Edwin Cruz and Smayle Domínguez.

The Grand Prize award honors the late Fernando Báez. A prize was created in the memory of late artist Patricia Ascuasiati.
